A three-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-altering injuries after being attacked by a bear at a Maple Ridge residence on Sunday morning. The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. on a residential property. The child was flown to the hospital out of an abundance of caution due to her young age. The bear repeatedly returned to the property, displaying aggression and a high level of interest in the location. RCMP officers shot the bear to protect public safety, but the animal managed to flee into a nearby wooded area. BC Conservation Officers, assisted by the RCMP, took the lead on the investigation and are actively tracking the wounded animal. Officials are urging nearby residents to stay indoors and remain vigilant.
