Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too. Quoting d'Entremont Nature Photography "if you can't find uncommon subjects, take uncommon photos of common subjects." I know many people do not like our Canada Goose but they really are amazing creatures. So fierce and protective. This one was feeding in the marsh and every once and a while it came up with algae hanging from it's beak. Once I cropped the image, the water on the feathers stood out even more.

Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too. While walking on the marsh boardwalk we spotted this Blue Heron hiding in the reeds, fishing. He was completely motionless, waiting for the unsuspecting fish to come near. It is truly amazing how they can stand so still for so long. If only more of us had that patience and perseverance.

Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too. Another beautiful bird we came across in Point Pelee. I have never come across the Blackburnian Warbler around our place and I have only spotted one once while in Algonquin Park, so this was a real treat. This handsome fellow was flitting through the trees while we hiked. He stopped long enough for us to capture his beauty.

Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too. I finally made the trek to Point Pelee. Wow, what a beautiful park. It was the peak of migration and even on a Monday it was busy. We spotted this beautiful male Rose-breasted Grosbeak just sitting in the branches along the path. He did not seem to mind us being there. We quietly enjoyed his presence and then carried on our way.

I would like you to meet, Golden Girl.
It doesn't get much better than this. The sky is blue, the sun is behind us and lower in the sky, and a giraffe just happens to walk onto the road, stops and turns to look at you.
What more can I say...

Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too. Lake Naivasha is home to many hippopotami. They are huge animals, and quite dangerous. Our resort had the water front gated with electric fencing that was closed and turned on at dusk because the hippos grazed on the lawn at night. We were fortunate to see the family (2 parents and a 3 month old) when we went for a wander with the security guard. Apparently, hippos spend all day in/under the water, and then at dusk, come ashore to graze all night.
These 2 were "playing" during our boat ride.

Therapeutic Thursday! Nature is my therapy, perhaps it is yours too.
With Mother's Day coming up I thought I would turn to elephants which are Matriarchal. If you see a herd of elephants, they are females and young. The bulls do not stay in the herd they wander alone. As mating season comes, the bulls wander closer to herds looking for females, then they go back to their solitary life.
I also learned that elephants are right or left tusk dominate. The broken tusk is the dominate one.
I have so many photos of elephants and sometimes they were so close I had to get creative with the shot. The first one I call "Wisdom". That eye has seen so much.
The last one is George, he was a solitary bull that was close to Enkirari Wilderness Camp in the Serengeti.
