সাদা বক (Great Egret), পানির ওপর দিয়ে উড়ার সময় এর ঘাড় ভাঁজ করে রাখা খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, এতে লম্বা ঘাড়ের ভারসাম্য বজায় থাকে এবং উড়তেও সুবিধা হয়।এরা দেখতে একদম ধীরস্থির মনে হলেও শিকার ধরার মুহূর্তে এক সেকেন্ডেরও কম সময়ে ঠোঁট ছুড়ে দিতে পারে।

The Great Egret keeps its neck folded while flying over water, which is important for maintaining the balance of its long neck and making flight easier. Although it looks calm and graceful, when it spots prey, it can thrust its beak forward in less than a second to catch it.

চড়ুই বেশ বুদ্ধিমান পাখি পরিবেশের পরিবর্তনের সঙ্গে দ্রুত মানিয়ে নিতে পারে এবং খাবারের উৎস মনে রাখতে পারে। বৃষ্টির মধ্যেও খাবার খোঁজা বন্ধ করে না—বৃষ্টির পর মাটির কাছাকাছি অনেক পোকামাকড় ও খাবার সহজে পাওয়া যায়। তাই বৃষ্টি চড়ুই পাখি ভালোই উপভোগ করে।

Sparrows are quite intelligent birds. They can quickly adapt to changes in their environment and remember the locations of food sources. They do not stop searching for food even during the rain—after rainfall, many insects and food items become easier to find near the ground. So, it seems that sparrows actually enjoy the rain quite well.

বক আসলে ধৈর্যের ওস্তাদ, পানিতে ঘণ্টার পর ঘণ্টা একদম মূর্তির মতো দাঁড়িয়ে থাকে মনে হবে মাছ ধরতে নয়, ধ্যান করতে এসেছে। মাছ একটু কাছে এলেই হঠাৎ বিদ্যুৎগতিতে ঠোঁট ছুড়ে দেয় আর মাছ বুঝে ওঠার আগেই খেলা শেষ।

The heron is truly a master of patience. It can stand perfectly still in the water for hours, almost like a statue, you might think it came there not to catch fish, but to meditate. The moment a fish comes close, it suddenly strikes with lightning speed, and before the fish even realizes what’s happening, the game is over.

মানুষ আর পাখির জীবনে অদ্ভুত এক মিল আছে মানুষ ছুটে চলে টাকার খোঁজে, আর পাখি ছুটে চলে খাবারের খোঁজে। দিনের আলো ফুটতে না ফুটতেই দু’জনেরই শুরু হয়ে যায় দুশ্চিন্তা আর বেঁচে থাকার লড়াই।
