🛕 A Hidden Chapter of Bengal’s History
An ancient Hindu temple dating back to the early Pala period (8th century) has been discovered in Chandipur village of Birampur upazila, Dinajpur, Bangladesh. Archaeologists from Jahangirnagar University identified it as the first known Hindu temple from the Pala era found in Bengal so far.
Built with bricks, the temple featured a four-pillared garbhagriha (sanctum) and a mandapa. Terracotta plaques discovered at the site suggest that the temple was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Archaeological evidence indicates that the structure was constructed during the reign of the early Pala kings and continued to be used for several centuries.
This remarkable discovery proves that Bengal’s rich history is not only preserved in books—but still lies hidden beneath its soil.
