Eurasian Whimbrel
Ever-wandering and elegant, the Eurasian Whimbrel moves with quiet purpose along our shores. With its gracefully curved bill, it probes the wet sand for hidden life—worms, mollusks, and tiny crustaceans. Dressed in mottled browns, it blends perfectly with the coastal terrain.
This incredible bird is a true globe-trotter, flying thousands of kilometers each year—from Arctic tundras to tropical tidal flats.
This moment was captured as part of my ongoing project on the wildlife of Bangladesh—a reminder of nature’s resilience and the vital role our wetlands play in global migration.

Pallas’s Squirrel – The Crimson-Furred Acrobat of the Canopy 🌳
Lively, agile, and often just a rustle in the treetops, the Pallas’s Squirrel darts through branches like a flash of red flame. Its reddish-brown coat, bushy tail, and alert eyes make it a standout among forest dwellers. Found leaping fearlessly between trees, this energetic rodent plays a vital role in forest ecology by dispersing seeds and trimming tree growth naturally.
Species Insight
- Scientific Name: Callosciurus erythraeus
- Habitat: Deciduous and evergreen forests, woodlands, parks, and gardens
- Diet: Fruits, seeds, bark, buds, and occasionally insects
- Behavior: Diurnal and arboreal; nests in tree cavities or leafy dreys
- Conservation Status: Least Concern, but invasive in some introduced regions
This image freezes a moment of nimble motion—reminding us of the small mammals that keep our forest ecosystems alive and dynamic. Observing them helps us understand the threads that connect the canopy to the forest floor.
Captured as part of my ongoing project documenting the wildlife of Bangladesh.

Pheasant-tailed Jacana – The Lily Walker of the Wetlands 🌿
Elegant and elusive, the Pheasant-tailed Jacana glides across floating vegetation with grace and balance. With its long tail feathers, bold golden nape, and striking contrast of black and white plumage, this bird is a true spectacle of our freshwater habitats—often seen ‘walking on water’ thanks to its extra-long toes.
Species Insight
• Scientific Name: Hydrophasianus chirurgus
• Habitat: Shallow lakes, marshes, ponds with floating vegetation
• Diet: Insects, larvae, small aquatic creatures, and plant matter
• Behavior: Polyandrous (females mate with multiple males), males incubate and raise chicks
• Conservation Status: Least Concern, but habitat-sensitive
This image captures not just a stunning bird, but also the beauty and fragility of aquatic ecosystems in Bangladesh. Protecting their habitats means preserving the poetry of nature in motion.
