‘The People’s Choice Award’.
The piece that had everyone talking …
As divine timing would have it, I was literally about to hit ‘live’ on my print store when asked me to be part of the WINTER Exhibition - a creative curation to bring a bunch of incredible local photographers together for our take on the look and feel of Winter on this incredible Surf Coast. Recent and unpublished works a must.
We love a good tight deadline, so I pulled one from a recent winter sunrise and looked for inspiration from my own old works for something different and unexpected. Black and white. N**e. Art. Let’s gooo …
A fresh steamer and a few minutes with a willing candidate in a birthday suit … entered ‘Wet Suit’.
Simple. Striking. A little celebratory nod to female form in a typically male dominated line up. Oooft, and the relief to be released from the constraints of a wetsuit in the middle of winter. Goosebumps included.
What was most important to me was liking my own work. Did it feel like me and what I wanted to represent me as an artist?
I wasn’t happy with the image quality. No time to reshoot to refine. I nearly considered ditching it and sticking to the expected landscapes. But I’m no quitter and I live for a point of difference.
It took 4 prints to get it successfully framed thanks to my desire to print on a premium cotton rag. Big shout out to my education in file management 10 years ago and a big shoutout to for making miracles happen.
The blacks look SO rich and delicious on this paper. What a choice. No regrets. Will continue to use.
Anyway, turns out my most troubled piece was the crowd favourite winning ‘The People’s Choice Award’. Quite chuffed with myself for letting perfectionism go.
Now I have a solo exhibition to think about - huge honour, thank you .studios !
Thank you, thank you, thank you Oggy for not letting me miss the boat on this one.
