Hi everyone - sorry ive been a bit quiet on this page -
I did attend the Valley Views Equestrian Park - Agistment, Training & Events cattle play day last weekend and will pop up the photos in the next day or so- im sorry its taken a while - ive been busy - and its suddenly another weekend over! Its definately on my list of things to do tomorrow - thanks for your patience - time is flying by

More about me- the girl behind the camera

I was born in New Zealand, and moved to Australia as an individual, in November 2019.
I was over East near Sydney for about 1 and a half years, when I decided to move to Perth.

I have been in Perth almost 5 years, and drove myself over - which was a cool and scary adventure.
I was given my first camera from my grandfather on my 7th birthday - and my passion continued on into college, where i studied art photography for 2 years. This was film, and I was taught how to develop my photos in the darkroom and it was mostly black and white. Learning different techniques and being the first person to see the image appear- was really enjoyable.

I named this page, and my business Jean's Photography after my grandma Jean.

I didnt know her long, but she was a very special person and I know she would be super proud of having her name used.
She was a creator of things, and i have alot of her traits, and qualities within me, and i keep her memory alive by thinking about her each day.

Photos are not just a frozen moment captured- they allow us to look back at what was, and bring old memories to light.

I love capturing that for people and for myself.
And photography for me, is a very strong passion.

I choose to photograph horses and animals because i am a horse woman and pet lover myself and i know how special a good photo of your precisous animals can be.

Thats what keeps me going.

I am very lucky, my job is fifo 2/2 and i spend my time off with my animals and my camera

Ever wondered what the numbers on the lens actually mean?
Well this lens - its whats called a Prime lens- it cannot zoom in and has a fixed focal length.
This one is 50mm.
This focal length is perfect for portraits with that soft, compressed background - which makes the subject pop.
The number 1:1.8 is the widest the aperture will open( the eye of the lens )
This matters as it determines not only the amount of light you can let in - but the focal point too.

Different apertures are used for different depth to the photo - and 1.8 gives you a really nice blurry background - which is why I love this lens focal length- its one of my favs!
If you compare it to your smartphone camera- the camera in your phone has a much wider focal length and it zooms- but as you zoom the photo becomes lens distictive. Its not a true zoom. I will touch on that in a different post.
The focal length determines how much of the picture you are going to capture in a single frame.

There are so many different focal lengths - so as a new photographer it can be confusing

My kit is made up of prime lenses as well as zooms - as it gives me a good range.

The longer number on this lens is the serial number - this one is a classic manual lens ( it doesnt have any chips, or computer parts.) You have to manually focus it. It also has an aperture ring to change the f.stop number.
This one is a 70's model, made for film cameras back in the day. But even though its vintage glass- it still gives you beautiful images which is why i still use it today - even on my modern camera.
Nikkor is the glass and Nikon is the brand
This lens was made in Japan
