This beautiful family had been holidaying together in Murwillumbah with their mum, continuing a tradition theyâve held onto for years. All the siblings, their partners, everyone together in one place for a little while.
As we chatted during their session, it became really obvious how close they all are. They shared with me that they lost their dad not too long ago, and now their mum is living with dementia and in a nursing home. You could feel how much these annual get-togethers mean now. Not out of obligation, but because they genuinely want to be together and make memories while they still can.
And honestly⌠I think thatâs really bloody beautiful.
After we got the âeveryone look here and smile nicelyâ photos done, the girls agreed to trust me and do something a bit fun in the pool overlooking the hills.
This session also made me reflect on my own life a little. On how busy we all are. How easy it is to keep saying âwe should catch up soonâ or âweâll do that next yearâ while life quietly keeps moving around us.
I donât think weâre meant to rush through life the way we do. I think weâre meant to sit longer at the table, visit more often, take the photo and keep the traditions going, even after loss changes the shape of the family.
Because one day, these photographs become part of the story people hold onto. đ¤
