POV: You thought you were just going to see some lights... and then Sydney absolutely blew your mind. ✨🌈

Last night I experienced the Vivid Sydney 2026 Laser Lightfall show at Darling Harbour, and honestly, photos don't do it justice.

The second the lasers hit the sky over Cockle Bay, the entire harbour transformed into something that felt straight out of a sci-fi movie. Massive beams of colour danced across the water, lighting up the skyline while thousands of people stood completely mesmerised. Every sequence felt bigger than the last, building into an insane finale that had everyone cheering. 🌌🚀

What I loved most was how the reflections bounced across the harbour. It wasn't just a light show — it felt like Sydney itself became part of the artwork.

The atmosphere was unreal. Families, couples, tourists, photographers, content creators... everyone was stopping to take it all in. For a few minutes, the whole city seemed to pause and just enjoy the moment.

If you're in Sydney and haven't been to Vivid yet, put Darling Harbour at the top of your list. Trust me. This is one of those experiences you'll remember long after the lights switch off.

🎥 Tip: Get there early for the best viewing spots around Cockle Bay and stay for the full sequence. The ending is worth it.

A Different Perspective on Vivid Sydney 2026

Last night, I headed into Sydney’s CBD for another look at Vivid Sydney 2026, this time with the goal of capturing the festival from a different perspective. Even after multiple visits, there’s always something new to discover — different angles, changing crowds, and unique ways the light interacts with the city.

For this photo walk, I used the Olympus MD 10 Mark IV. Considering its price point of around $1,000, it’s a capable camera that delivers impressive results in the right conditions. While it does begin to struggle when pushed beyond ISO 3200, it performs exceptionally well at lower ISO settings. Shooting between ISO 100 and 400 on a tripod produces clean, sharp images with virtually no visible grain.

One of the challenges — and fun aspects — of photographing an event like Vivid is working quickly and creatively. Most of the images from this session were captured "from the hip," allowing me to react naturally to the atmosphere and movement around me rather than spending too much time setting up each shot.

Vivid Sydney continues to be an incredible showcase of light, colour, and creativity, and I enjoyed exploring it through a fresh lens. I hope these photographs offer a different view of one of Sydney’s most iconic annual events.

This morning we met at Jenny Dixon Beach, just across the road from Norah Head Lighthouse, for a sunrise photography session from a different vantage point than last week's shoot. The conditions provided a beautiful start to the day, with the early morning light creating some wonderful opportunities to capture the coastline.
Jenny Dixon Beach is named after the coal schooner that was wrecked here during a severe storm in 1870. Over time, locals began referring to the vessel as "Jenny Dixon," and the name has remained part of the area's history ever since. Standing on the beach at sunrise, it's easy to appreciate both the natural beauty of the location and its connection to the Central Coast's rich maritime heritage.
I joined members of the Central Coast Photography Focus Group for the morning shoot, and afterwards we enjoyed a well-earned breakfast and a chance to discuss the images captured during the session.
Tonight, I'll be heading into Sydney to experience Vivid and explore the city's spectacular light installations, projections, and creative displays through the lens of my camera.

Good morning from Norah Head on the NSW Central Coast!

I was feeling a little worse for wear after the adventures of Vivid Sydney 2026. After getting home around 10:30pm, I somehow found myself wide awake, but we still managed to make it out here by 5:30am. The morning greeted us with grey skies and fairly ordinary conditions, but as photographers know, there’s always something to work with if you let your creativity take over.

While it may not have had the bright lights and energy of Vivid, it offered something even better — catching up with the Social Sunrise Crew. There’s something special about sharing a morning with like-minded people, having a chat, enjoying a shoot together, and then finishing it off with breakfast. Sometimes it’s not just about the photos; it’s about the people and the moments along the way.

Tonight I hit the Sydney Harbour for the opening night of Vivid. The rain hung around for a while and I was honestly wondering… do I stay or do I go? Thankfully the skies opened up and gave us a chance to get out and create.
As photographers, shooting the same iconic sights can sometimes feel a little repetitive, so tonight I experimented with a few different styles. I played around with some ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) techniques and really enjoyed adding an artistic touch while pushing my creative boundaries. I love stepping outside the comfort zone and seeing what unexpected results appear.

Tonight I hit the Sydney Harbour for the opening night of Vivid. The rain hung around for a while and I was honestly wondering… do I stay or do I go? Thankfully the skies opened up and gave us a chance to get out and create.

As photographers, shooting the same iconic sights can sometimes feel a little repetitive, so tonight I experimented with a few different styles. I played around with some ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) techniques and really enjoyed adding an artistic touch while pushing my creative boundaries. I love stepping outside the comfort zone and seeing what unexpected results appear.

These photos were taken around the Sydney Harbour and Circular Quay area — let us know what you think after viewing them. Feedback and thoughts are always appreciated.

Afterwards, we wrapped things up with breakfast at Cookabrew Café in Umina, enjoying plenty of laughs, good conversation, and a few old stories along the way.

This morning we all caught up at Koolewong on Brisbane Water along the NSW Central Coast. While the conditions weren’t exactly ideal for photography, the morning still turned out pretty well. As most of you know, I’m usually my own toughest critic when it comes to getting the shot just right.

Tonight before leaving the city after work, I went on a little photography adventure through Sydney with my trusty Olympus OM-D E-M10 📸✨ Lately, I’ve been learning to take more risks and push the boundaries of composition, stepping outside my comfort zone and experimenting creatively 🎨🔥
You’ll even spot some intentional camera movement shots taken on the light rail 🚋💨 — and surprisingly, they turned out okay 😄 Hyde Park was a little limited with the current renovations happening 🚧🌳, but that also pushed me to see things differently and work with what was around me 👀✨
I might start making this a Friday tradition 🌙📷 Let me know what you think of these photos 🙌😊
