Neptunes — 2026 Premiers. 🏆

Under the bright lights of Townsville Stadium, with a season’s worth of work coming down to one final game, Neptunes and Saints took the court for the 2026 Grand Final.

There was no room left for second chances. Every intercept mattered. Every rebound was contested. Every goal carried a little more weight.

Saints had already shown their strength throughout the finals, but on the biggest night of the season, Neptunes found another gear.

Through the pressure, the noise and the intensity of a grand final, they held their nerve and finished the job.

A fitting end to a brilliant season of Townsville netball, and a night full of the emotion, athleticism and moments that make grand finals so special.

Congratulations to Neptunes, and also to Saints on an outstanding season and a hard-fought Grand Final.

Rebels will progress to the next week of the finals after a hard-fought 1–0 victory over MA Olympic in the Townsville Women’s Under 23 League.

It was a tight contest from start to finish, with Rebels digging deep to earn a well-deserved win and keep their finals campaign alive.

Full-time: Rebels 1 – MA Olympic 0

Congratulations to Rebels on a gutsy performance and a deserved place in the next round where they will challenge Estates FC for a spot in the grand final.

Neptunes V Te Whanau

Neptunes are through to the Grand Final after overcoming Te Whanau in Monday night’s Preliminary Final.

The Minor Premiers took control of the contest in the second quarter, opening up a strong lead that Te Whanau fought hard to reel back in. Despite their efforts, the gap proved too much to overcome and Neptunes held firm to book their place in Saturday’s decider.

That sets up another huge clash with Saints — the third meeting between the two sides in just a few weeks.

Their first battle came in the final round of the regular season, where Neptunes secured the Minor Premiership. Saints struck back the following week, winning another hard-fought contest to secure their place in the Grand Final. Both games were incredibly close, with the lead changing hands several times.

Now it all comes down to one final showdown.

Townsville City Netball Association Inc. Grand Final Day — what an incredible day this was to be part of.

The atmosphere, the athleticism and the standard of competition were outstanding. The players put on a show, while the referees, coaches and team managers carried themselves with a level of professionalism that was genuinely impressive.

I especially want to acknowledge the officials and volunteers working behind the scenes.

These are the people putting in long hours to make sure the entire day runs flawlessly. Many of them sacrifice their own opportunity to sit back, watch the games and soak up the Grand Final atmosphere because they are too busy making sure everyone else gets to enjoy it.

That says a lot about the people involved in this organisation.

I get a lot of exposure to different sporting organisations through photography, and Townsville Netball is, by far, one of the best I have had the privilege of being around.

The organisation, professionalism, atmosphere and the people behind it are exceptional.

If you’ve got kids looking for a sport next year — get them involved in netball. They’ll be joining something pretty bloody special.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making Grand Final day what it was. Well done. 👏

Runaways V Te Whanau

Te Whanau have found peak form at the business end of the season, defeating Runaways in their sudden-death final to keep their premiership hopes alive.

Addison Whalley, renowned for her accuracy from distance, delivered a fantastic performance at goal shooter for Te Whanau. If she can back up tonight’s effort, they will be very hard to stop.

They now advance to face minor premiers Neptunes next Monday at Townsville Stadium, with a place in the Grand Final on the line.

For Runaways, the loss brings their season to an end, but they can hold their heads high after a strong campaign and a well-earned place in the finals.

Saints V Neptunes

Saints defeated Neptunes 44–41 in a thrilling contest that changed hands several times throughout the night.

Neptunes led by six goals at one stage and looked ready to run away with the game, but Saints refused to let them go. A huge performance from goal shooter Abbey Pearson helped drive the comeback up front, while Claudia Heath delivered an outstanding defensive effort at the other end.

Saints now advance directly to the Grand Final.

Neptunes will face the red-hot Te Whanau next Monday, 31 August, at Townsville Stadium. The winner will earn the right to meet Saints in the Grand Final.

Congratulations to Neptunes. The 2026 Townsville Premier League Netball Minor Premiers.

With Saints sitting just one competition point ahead of Neptunes heading into the final round, there was plenty on the line. Neptunes got the win and, with it, secured the minor premiership.

Neptunes were strong across the court, but the standout was their towering goal shooter Mackenzie Linton, who was virtually unstoppable under the post and finished with an incredible 30 goals from 34 attempts.

Commiserations to Saints, who challenged right to the end in a close contest. Their standout — and definite crowd favourite — was Tiarni Fennell. She copped more hits than a vending machine with your chips stuck halfway, but somehow survived the ordeal with one eye and eight ribs to spare for next week. She still inspired her teammates and the crowd, finishing with an incredible 31 goals from 33 attempts.

Saints also had a few big guns missing, with some likely to return next week for the semi-final. That should make the rematch even more interesting — although whether it’s enough to find an answer for Mackenzie Linton is another question.

And we get to do it all again.

Saints and Neptunes meet again next Monday at 8pm at Townsville Stadium in the semi-final, with the winner going straight through to the Grand Final.

Should be a cracker.

Congratulations to the players selected for the North Queensland United Netball Under 16 team. Under coaches Ben Lee, Caitlin Buchannon, and Lauren Harvey, the team will compete at the QLD State Titles at Nissan Arena in Brisvegas. 20-22 September 2026.
The draw has not been released yet but all games will be streamed live at NetballQTV.com.au
