| STILLNESS | Roebuck Bay WA

Sometimes beauty is simply in the stillness.

Roebuck Bay, Western Australia, was one of those places where there didn’t need to be a lot happening. The soft colour, the water moving gently across the sand, the openness of it all… it still draws me in.

Aren’t we all drawn to the peace of the ocean?

There’s something about standing beside it that seems to quieten everything else for a while.

I think we can become so used to looking for the spectacular that we forget to notice the quieter moments.

There is a real peace in contentment. In not needing anything more from the moment than what is already there.

Take me back any day. And in the meantime, I can enjoy the print. It looks stunning on Hahnemuhle Metallic fine art paper!

Today is another “pinch myself” moment where I step outside my comfort zone!

Although I couldn’t be there on Friday night for the opening of the Central Highlands Regional Galleries EMERALD Annual Art Awards, I was humbled to hear the results.

I’m incredibly honoured that two of my works were recognised by the judges:

🏆 Mineral Pulse – 1st Place, Category 4 – Photography
🏆 Standing Quiet – 1st Place, Category 5 – Digital Art

It’s always encouraging to know that images created from moments of quiet observation can connect with others, and the joy of sharing these images is important to me. Nature is incredible, and my passion for showing the quiet persistence of the landscape is always expanding.

A heartfelt thank you to the judges, the Central Highlands Regional Galleries team and curators, and everyone who supported the exhibition opening.

MINERAL PULSE | From above, Port Alma Salt ponds reveal a quiet rhythm shaped by water wind and minerals, Delicate salt crystals shimmer across the bands of coral, white and turquoise - creating a landscape that seems to breathe. Even the most fragile places carry an enduring pulse, a rhythm waiting to be noticed.
STANDING QUIET | standing here the landscape feels almost empty at first glance. Just trees. Just white. Just silence. In the stillness of winter, these trees reveal their true form - textured intricate and quietly resistant. What appears bear becomes rich with detail when we take time to look.

As I explore the world of abstract photography, I find myself wondering…

Is it okay to see the world differently?

Photography has taught me that there isn’t always one right way to look at a landscape. Sometimes I fly over a scene and what first appears to be a simple mudflat becomes something else entirely.

In this image, I see a branch reaching across the earth. I see possibility. I see growth. I see quiet determination.

But that’s my perspective.

The beauty of abstract art is that it leaves space for your imagination too. Every person brings their own experiences, memories and emotions to an image, and no two interpretations are ever quite the same.
Now I’d love to know…

The longer I looked at this image, the more I realised it wasn’t simply about mudflow meeting water.

At first, the darker sediment appears to block the luminous tide.
But the ocean keeps moving.
Quietly.
Patiently.
Finding a new pathway forward.

Perhaps that is what nature teaches us best.

Not every obstacle is the end of the story.
Sometimes life reshapes us through redirection rather than resistance.

In Alluvium, the tide becomes a quiet metaphor for change, movement, and the unseen currents that carry us toward new beginnings.

I’ve been holding onto this announcement for awhile

… letting it sink in.

I am thrilled to let you know Figtree Gallery Yeppoon have offered me a 2027 Solo Exhibition, with opening night pencilled in for Sunday 29/8/2027 from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm.
While this is still months away. I am intentionally creating a body of work that central Queensland will be proud of.

The mark it in your diaries 2027 is going to be amazing!
