Finally found the post button on this account.

Taken last Christmas holidays after I hadn’t gone anywhere all holidays after saying I’d go out heaps, I finally made my way onto a walking track which I had only found that week and couldn’t find many photos from. And of course I didn’t check the radar before I left and it rained and stopped and rained and stopped. I did have an umbrella so that helped but in the dense bush it’s not the best. (Stupid I know, but better than nothing)

The track was thin but it was in a gorge so you couldn’t get lost. It got so thin I nearly turned back because I was wasting time back tracking but i eventually made it to the end, where I found a nice lookup with clear views of the sandstone cliffs which was a cool change from the usual lookouts and look downs.

As the sun came back out after the rain the fog or whatever you want to call it came out and over the cliffs which was pretty cool. And out in the distance was this tree sticking out. So I slapped a 100-400mm on and this is the result.

Neon reflections - 2024

About time I made another post… Last year i finally went to the city on a rainy night to take some photos after waiting for months and months for some rain. And when it rained it poured. Nearly got blown away going under the harbour bridge, umbrella inside out, trying to cover my camera gear, not being able to see where I’m going huge puddles i kept walking in. Other than that a pretty cool night and i Can’t wait to go again and take photos of all the other locations I’ve found.

“Gold” (2024)

I don’t remember which exact trip this was at the start of the year… but it was definitely one of them. Lots of light, a bit of colour but it was still too dark to take any good photos. They all turned out really grainy. I’ll be back to this place when the sand returns and i can walk up close instead of risking everything on the sharp rocks.

As always with this place the shutter speed works well with the waves but not so well when a bird flies into frame but it works well enough in this shot. And the cliffs on the right hand side make the image uneven.

“Surge” (2024)

After upgrading my camera gear I told myself I had to get out more to justify the cost. So one afternoon earlier in the year after 200mm of rain I went down to Carrington to see it pumping, the cloud forecast gave me a sliver of hope that some light might break through but it never did.

I love the small clouds that get pushed into the valley in the right conditions, very atmospheric .

Looks like I could get some cool comps on the right hand side of this image. Something to keep in mind.

“Burragorang Burner” (2024)

After coming up here for the local councils photography competition once. I knew I’d be coming back regularly to get a photo like this one.

Luckily I live close by so i got permission from NPWS for after hour access and kept trying and trying. And after about 6 months of trying I got this and haven’t been back since as It doesn’t get any better than this.

“Leura Mall underpass” (2024)

No fog was forecast but that’s all I got this day in January 2024. Landscape photography is a bit like that all the time, you can have all the apps in the world and still have a shot of a foggy tunnel on the way to castle head be the best shot of the day…

I still ventured out to castle head in the hopes of the fog clearing by the time the sunset happened. No luck. So i took my drone up seeing if i could fly it above the fog. No luck and it came back very wet.

It was still an awesome experience being out in the middle of no where, the air dead quiet and not being able to see more than 15 metres away especially on cliff edges as I couldn’t see the ground and it seemed as if you were on the edge of a bottomless pit…

Keen to get back tho as I have been more focused on my car photography page and have been neglecting this one.

“Butter” (2024)

After being weeks too late last year I made sure to get there on time this year, unfortunately a little bit early.

I had planned to try and get a nice sunrise comp but without knowing the area and arriving when it was dark still made it hard to find a good comp in time. Storm clouds obscured the horizon anyway, I hoped to get a lightning strike sunrise canola combo but it never happened. Always another year…

Average cloud cover blocked the sunlight which really took the colour out of the canola, so thats why they look a bit off here as i was trying to bring the colour out. But it was good to do some landscape stuff its been a while…

“Cape Baily Lighthouse” (2024)

On a visit to Kurnell for what was supposed to be a good sunrise (it was for once). Afterwards I decided to scope out the area for any future compositions and found this.

Definitely coming back in spring to see if theres any wildflowers around.

The way the light hits the hill adds to it all.
