🔴 1967 CAMARO SUPER SPORT — Z27 · Series 01 Post 03

The Z27 Super Sport package at $210.65 was the most important option code on the 1967 Camaro order sheet — it was the gatekeeper to the 396 big block. Without Z27, there was no L35 and no L78. The SS also brought 14×7 wheels over the base 14×5.5, staggered E70×14 front / F70×14 rear tyres, heavy-duty suspension throughout, staggered rear shock mounting to reduce wheel hop, and the complete SS visual identity: bumblebee stripe, SS396 quarter emblems, SS hubcaps.

The L78 at 375hp with the M22 Rock Crusher and 4.10 Positraction gears is the benchmark SS specification — and matching-numbers examples in Australia with full documentation are among the most valuable first-gen F-Bodies in the country. The Rally Sport package is the configuration most commonly encountered in Australian private imports of the 1967 model year. The hidden headlamp nose was a genuine talking point — nothing else on Australian roads at the time used the same trick, and it gave the Camaro an immediately distinctive identity alongside the chrome-bumpered Monaro and Mustang. RS/SS combination cars are particularly sought after in the Australian collector scene, where documentation of the original build sheet and broadcast sheet significantly elevates value. Left-hand drive engineering approvals vary by state, with Victoria and Queensland historically the most straightforward for 1967–69 first-gen Camaros.

Look at that nose. No headlamps. Just smooth, flush body panels where the lights should be. That was the whole point of the Rally Sport package — $105 and change to make your Camaro look like nothing else on the road.

The Z22 Rally Sport wasn't a performance package. It was a style package. Vacuum-operated hidden headlamp doors, a blacked-out grille, body-colour bumper end caps instead of chrome, RS badging front and rear. The lights lived behind those doors — and when you opened them at night, you understood why 64,000 people ticked that box in 1967 alone.

The real magic was what you could stack on top of it. Z22 + Z27 SS = the RS/SS — hidden lamps up front, 396 big block under the hood. Or Z22 + Z28 = the RS/Z28, the Trans-Am homologation car wearing the stylist's suit. 🇦🇺

SERIES 01 · POST 01 · 1967 CHEVROLET CAMARO SPORT COUPE

September 29, 1966. Chevrolet pulled the covers off a car that had been developed in near-total secrecy. Ford had 800,000 Mustang sales before Chevy even had a prototype. They had serious ground to make up.

What they delivered was the Camaro. All-new F-Body platform, long hood, short deck, fastback roofline, and an option sheet wide enough to build the car you actually wanted — from a sensible 140hp inline-six to a tire-shredding 375hp L78 big block. And if you knew the right code words, a Z/28 with a screaming 302 built purely for Trans-Am racing.

Every 1967 in Australia today arrived as an import. Private, passionate, and uncompromising. 🇦🇺
