A couple of the other trains at Eden Hills a couple days ago with modern UGL C44 power on intermodal trains, 20 October 2026.

The first train was SCT 2MP9 with RailFirst CF class locomotives CF4433 - CF4432 - CF4408 - Aurizon 6020 class loco 6026, all variants of the model C44aci locos. These locos are all hired power.

The second train was Pacific National (PN) 2MP5 with 94 class locomotives 9422 - 9421 - 9419, all examples of the newer model C44ESACi locos.

While it’s good to see Australia’s freight moving behind newer locos, I can’t help but still like photographing the older locos better!

Steamranger Heritage Railway’s 830 class locomotive 844 hauling the Cockle Train around the curve while heading out of Goolwa, and heading over the Hindmarsh River bridge approaching Victor Harbor during the Grand Fleurieu Rail Fest, 18 October 2026. The locomotive last worked with Genesee & Wyoming Australia on South Australia’s last broad gauge freight train, the Penrice stone train until 2014, and it now regularly hauls tourist trains for Steamranger.

More photos from Steamranger Heritage Railway’s Grand Fleurieu Rail Festival, Part 2 of 2 with Rx class steam locomotive Rx224 - 620 class loco 621 on the Cockle Train, and 830 class diesel loco 844 on a second Cockle Train, 18 October 2026. Different locations include Goolwa, Middleton, Boomer Beach, Hindmarsh River bridge, and Victor Harbor. The different mix of motive power made for a great sight on this nice, clear day.

South Australian Railways (SAR) 75 class Brill railcar no.60 leaving Goolwa with its distinctive air horn, and is then shown earlier in its journey travelling along the coast at Boomer Beach, 19 October 2026. Steamranger Heritage Railway brought the American-designed railcar back to service earlier this year in time to celebrate 100 years since the first one entered service in SA.

Some photos from Steamranger Heritage Railway’s Grand Fleurieu Rail Festival yesterday, Part 1 of 2 with 75 class Brill railcar 60 at Victor Harbor, Boomer Beach, and Goolwa, along with Cobdogla Steam Friends Society’s 1928 Aveling & Porter H type steam roller and 830 class locomotive 844’s Cockle Train consist at Goolwa, 18 October 2026. The weather was great all day, and it was particularly nice to see a variety of South Australian Railways (SAR) power and finally photograph RC60 along this section of the line.

Steamranger Heritage Railway’s 830 class locomotive 844 coming into Goolwa with the Cockle Train during the Grand Fleurieu Rail Festival today. Unfortunately 845 has carked it, leaving 844 to do the duties today.

Victorian Railways (VR) B class diesel locomotive B60 (Harold W Clapp) with a NE line tour at Albury, 18 May 1975. The train is the ARHS standard gauge tour along the NE line for the 100th birthday of Harold W Clapp.
