Led by filmmaker and producer Nikolas Strugar, Ravens At Odds works extensively within the architecture and creative industries; telling stories through film, photography, graphic design, web development and brand strategy. We aim to work with practices and people who through their work:
– Make meaningful contribution to one or many forms of sustainability; ecological, cultural, social, economic;
– Are engaged with the issues of housing affordability, housing diversity, or homelessness;
– Who seek to tell meaningful stories in a way that is honest and authentic;
– In an aesthetic that responds to the nature and context of each individual project, rather than commercial trends or hype

About Nikolas Strugar
My career began in architecture, before a shift into film production. It’s with intimate knowledge and understanding of architecture that I approach filmmaking, and draw upon a visual language that relates to the project. I’ve developed aesthetic sensibilities and compositional skill in several design and production fields. With this range of professional skills, Ravens At Odds has the necessary experience to produce bespoke creative solutions for your project.

Over the last year I've been working with a number of architectural photographers and videographers who want to improve the quality of their video productions.

So I've put some structure around it and started a creative mentoring program.

Figuring it out on your own is hard. I understand I've been there.

I've worked with coaches and mentors on all aspects of my business and creative process.

I don't have all the answers but what I can share is what's worked for me. And what I do know is that I'm an expert in storytelling for video production for the architecture industry.

I want to share that knowledge with others, to help them overcome what's getting in their of developing their craft.

Some thoughts and observations from Innsbruck, Austria 🇦🇹

There is beauty in art, architecture and the things we create, but we're humbled by the natural world

Building scale and planting is crucial to the structure and experience of streets and squares

Many streets and footpaths aren't delineated by curbs. The onus is on all vehicles and pedestrians to keep safe

Service in cafes and restaurants is slow, but you're also allowed to take your time. I sat for hours reading or just taking in the surroundings despite only drinking a single coffee or b**r. There's no rush nor is there any obligation to consume more

Old buildings are old. New buildings are new. There's no confusing archeologists

A big part of the European experience is people, not aesthetics. Public spaces are for everyone. Young, old, poor, rich, people from all nations and walks of life

Travel with a book it'll strike up so many conversations with strangers. Likewise caring a cages and tripod around. You'll be everyone's holiday photographer ☺️

Note to self: Don't shy away from colour

Gelato on the steps of a statue is a good idea

As is getting out in nature

When Dylan McPherson approached us wanting video and photo content, we suggested taking a step back to look at his overall brand strategy.

His business had a good reputation and beautifully executed work, but his website didn't communicate what made him different from other builders in the region. The messaging was buried in dense text with no hierarchy.

Just putting this here for all the videographers who are asking about my slider setup. I've changed from a tripod to the Kupo stand as it allows much easier height adjustment and not that much more weight gain
