Here's what I wish every family knew ahead of their photo session...

Now that you're here….standing in the place that we chose to have your family portrait session, take a deep breath. Let it all go.

There is no more to-do list. There is nothing your children can do that will surprise me.

Remember why you wanted these photos in the first place.

Just be.

Just be with them. Just love on them. And play, and laugh and do all the things with them that you often wish you could (but instead think, oh I have to cook dinner or put those clothes away).

Really enjoy this moment. LIVE it.

Bring the fun energy, the loving energy and the silliness.

Let me worry about the logistics, what the kids are up to and where everyone needs to be.

Your only focus is to remember this moment for the rest of your life. To remember the details of their faces, the freckles on her nose, the gap in his teeth and the feel of their palm in yours.

And know that at the end of this beautiful memory from your rich life - there will also be many moments you didn't even realise were happening (but I saw them, captured them and gave them to you to hold for all the years to come).

Just be.

It’s not just about the photos.

Of course the photos matter. They’re the reason you book.

But what nobody talks about is the experience of it all.

For one afternoon, you’re not rushing to school drop-off, making lunches or trying to answer emails while someone asks for a snack for the seventeenth time.
You’re together.

You’re cuddling your babies, swinging your kids through the air, listening to their giggles and noticing all the little things you swear changed overnight.

And here’s what I’ve learnt after photographing hundreds of families:

The most beautiful photos don’t happen because everyone looked at the camera and smiled.

They happen when you’re genuinely enjoying being with each other.

That’s why I’ll never spend your session worrying about perfect behaviour or forcing smiles. I’ll guide you, give you prompts, play games with your kids and create space for real moments to unfold.

Because the best family photos aren’t just something you hang on the wall.

They’re a reminder of how it felt to be loved by your favourite people in this season of life.

When you’re booking newborn photos, beautiful images matter.

But so does knowing your baby is being handled safely, gently, and by someone experienced.

Your newborn session should feel calm from start to finish. No pressure. No complicated posing. Just a relaxed experience centred around your family and your baby.

If that sounds like what you’re looking for, I’d love to photograph this season for you.

Here’s why your newborn session won’t feel stressful (even as first-time parents).

In those first days after birth, you’re learning your baby.
What their little sounds mean.
How they like to be held.
Whether they’re hungry, overtired or simply wanting to be close to you.

You’re running on very little sleep…while somehow loving someone more than you thought possible.

And all of this is what I’m thinking about when I walk into your home.

Because in those first couple of weeks, bonding matters more to me than perfect poses ever will.

After I gently wrap and settle your baby, you’ll spend most of the session holding them close.
Breathing them in.
Kissing their cheeks.
Looking at them in awe (all while you’re thinking ‘we can’t believe you’re here’.)

And while you do that, I’m watching for all the little things.

Baby’s cues.
Tiny movements.
Whether they need a top-up feed.
If they’re warm enough.
If they’re comfortable.
If baby needs you, we pause.

There’s never pressure to rush or force anything.

When it comes to your baby’s portraits, I wait until they’re settled and happy before gently positioning them in a way that feels natural and safe.

I’m always within arm’s reach, because even the sleepiest newborns can surprise you.

And then, once they’re settled again, I’ll bring you back in close.

Because years from now, these won’t just feel like photographs of your baby.

They’ll feel like an oxytocin rush that takes you right back to this moment.

If you look at these photos and think, I’m too awkward to ever look like that… stop.

You deserve to not only be in the photos, but to feel gorgeous in them too.

Your kids won't remember when they're little but when they look back at the family treasure trove of portraits, they'll feel their childhood.

They see you - they'll see the joy, the love and feel home.

I guide you in a way that makes your session feel fun, relaxed and real.
Not stiff. Not awkward. Not overly posed.

Just like you.

So if feeling awkward has been the thing stopping you from booking family photos, please know… I’ll take care of you.

You’re wondering whether you should book newborn photos?

Worried about how you’ll feel…
and whether it might all be too much.

But then you’re in it.

And you realise just how quickly they’re changing.

And the session?
It’s more than photos.

It’s a chance to slow down.
To soak in that smell, those cheeks, those toes.

To have someone gently guide you…
see you…
and capture the parts you didn’t even realise you’d want to remember.

You realise it was easier than you thought.
Enjoyable.
Truely special to be part of.

And when you see your photos…there’s no doubt.

These are the ones you’ll hold onto forever.

You’re already bracing yourself a little, aren’t you?

Wondering what happens if they don’t “behave”…if the toddler melts down…if it all feels a bit too much.

I see it all the time.

That quiet stress before a session. The mental list running through your head.Hoping it all just… works.

But here’s the thing —your kids don’t need to be perfect for this to be worth it.

They don’t need to sit still.Or smile on cue.Or even be in a good mood the whole time.

They just need to be them.

And you get to be right there with them.Holding them, laughing with them, settling them when they need it.

That’s where the photos you’ll love actually come from.

Not from forcing it.Not from “say cheese.”

From being in it.

If this has been the thing holding you back… you don’t have to carry that into your session 🤍

This is why you’ll never regret documenting this age.

You know that corner of the wall where you mark their height?
Did you notice them growing…
or was it the moment they asked you to update it that you realised they’d shot up an inch?

It’s easy to miss.
Life is full.

Busy in the best kind of way.
But if we don’t pause…
these little changes slip by.

The soft toddler cheeks.
Her long, wavy hair.
His missing tooth.
Standing just shorter than you…
(but not for long).

One minute they’re so little…
and the next, they’re right there beside you.

Still yours.
Just changing.

Holding onto who they are, right now —
before it changes again.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos… this is your sign.

28/04/2026

If you wait until your baby is born to book newborn photos…you’ve already left it too late.
Let me explain.
Right now, it feels like you’ve got enough on your plate.
You’re organising the car seat,choosing a pram,trying to find a nappy bag that doesn’t look like a nappy bag…
So this becomes the thing you’ll just do later.

But later looks like this:
You’re running on broken sleep.Your hormones are all over the place. You’re learning your baby, your body… everything.
And even replying to a message can feel like too much.
So booking photos? It either gets pushed… or rushed.

And here’s the part no one really talks about…
This is one of the most vulnerable times in your life.
Someone is coming into your home…into that really special bonding time with your baby.
So it’s not just about finding a photographer.
You need someone you connect with.Someone who is safe. And someone who truly gets it.

So here’s what I tell all my clients instead:
Book while you’re still pregnant.
Choose someone you trust…and they’ll take care of the rest.
So when your baby arrives?
You don’t have to think. You just send a message… and it’s all taken care of.

Because the mums who do this?
They’re the ones who actually end up with photos they love —without the stress.

You are the one lying in the dark,
listening to the last thoughts of the day from your five-year-old.

The one who kisses her babies cheeks with such ferocity….
because you’re trying to memorise their smell and the feel of it,
to the end of your days.

You’ve just cleaned the glass sliding door,
and already… there it is.
A tiny handprint, catching the afternoon light in the kitchen.

These moments pass by.
They don’t stop the world. Or life. Or busyness.

But they stop you.

They make your heart whole and break it all at once.
Sparks of joy and moments of grief all in one - as the baby that was there yesterday, is no longer.

And each morning, you wake to someone new.
A little older. A little taller.
A little further away from who they were.

How can that be? You ask yourself.

And then...
another day passes and here you are again.

Lying in the dark. A little hand in yours.

And you are at peace.
Because what a privilege you think.
To be their mum.

These are the days you want to remember.
