"Watching through feathers" - A recent Great Created Tern image.

It has been way too long since I've posted anything to social media and actually I really haven't been going out with the camera too much lately. But I have a little trip away next week to explore a new part of Australia, and spend some quality time in nature with the camera. I can't wait to share more of that with you in time and get back into my photography.

Twany frogmouths are such a wonderfully weird bird.
I have so many images of them from last few years, and most of them is eyes shut and snoozing.

Luckily, the last few weeks, the local chicks have been awake during the day and curious as to what's around them.

This photo was taken this morning, just after sunrise. I almost didn’t post it — it’s not a rare bird, just a Grey Teal in plain light.

But this morning was the first time in months that I’ve been out with my camera properly. I’ve been dealing with some frustrating health stuff, and for the first time in a long while I’m starting to feel more like myself again.

It was actually a pretty challenging morning. The birds weren’t playing ball, the light became harsh quickly, and the area became busy with dog walkers sooner than I expected. But when things aren’t working out, I have a favourite reset: I get down and dirty, lying at the edge of the lake, eye level with the birds and just watch.

Before long, I was accepted as part of the landscape, and this Teal swam right up to me, completely unbothered by my presence.

So this image isn’t special in a technical sense… but the moment was. I’m posting it as a small celebration of getting back out there.

A very Happy Christmas to all!

It's been another beautiful year spent exploring new places and capturing all manners of wildlife. Thank you for all the support as I continue to grow as a photographer and as a business.

This coot chick didn't seem to appreciate the Fremantle Doctor as much as I did.

The Fremantle Doctor is the name locally given to the afternoon wind, that blows off the ocean onto the land, offering a needed relief from the Summer heat.

A wombat portrait from our time in Tasmania earlier in the year. Spending time with this iconic species was such a joy — they’re even more impressive up close than you’d ever expect.
