The Cosmos Revealed Photography has been a huge part of my life and recently I decided to attempt to capture the wonderful nature of the Universe.

I always thought it was inaccessible, complicated and super expensive. However, I have discovered that it is not true.

Messier 83 (M83), also known as the Southern Pinwheel Galaxy, is a bright, face-on barred spiral galaxy located about 15 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.

It is famous for its well-defined spiral arms, which are rich in dust lanes and sites of vigorous star formation, making it a popular target for astronomers.

M83 is a member of the Centaurus A/M83 Group and has hosted multiple supernovae.

The Carina Nebula - (NGC 3372)

The Carina Nebula is one of the largest and most active star-forming regions in our galaxy, located around 7,500 light-years away in the constellation Carina.

This enormous cosmic cloud is home to massive young stars, towering pillars of gas and dust, and the famous variable star Eta Carinae.

Captured through astrophotography, its glowing hydrogen clouds reveal breathtaking detail and colour that are invisible to the naked eye, showcasing the incredible beauty and power of our universe.

What is a Light Year?

A light year is a unit of distance, not time. It measures how far light can travel in one year.

Light moves incredibly fast — about 300,000 kilometres per second! In just one year, light travels around 9.46 trillion kilometres.

✨ Example:The nearest star to Earth after the Sun, Proxima Centauri, is about 4.24 light years away. That means the light we see from it tonight actually left the star over 4 years ago!

Centaurus A (NGC 5128) One of the most fascinating galaxies in the southern sky. Located around 13 million light-years away in the constellation Centaurus, it’s believed to be the result of two galaxies colliding long ago.

Its striking dark dust lane cuts across the bright galactic core, while a supermassive black hole at its centre powers enormous jets of energy into space.

A true favourite for astrophotographers and a stunning reminder of the dynamic nature of our universe. Captured 08th May 2026 - 32 degrees South.

Ever wondered why so many deep space objects have names like M42 or M31? The “M” stands for Messier — named after French astronomer Charles Messier from the 1700s. While searching the skies for comets, he kept finding faint fuzzy objects that weren’t comets at all. To avoid confusing them, he created a catalogue of these objects and numbered them. Today, those “Messier Objects” include some of the most famous nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters in the night sky — and they remain favourites for astronomers and astrophotographers around the world.

Captured together in a single breathtaking frame, the Horsehead Nebula and Flame Nebula shine brightly within the constellation of Orion, around 1,350 light-years from Earth.
The Flame Nebula glows with fiery orange and red gases, illuminated by the brilliant nearby star Alnitak — the easternmost star in Orion’s Belt. Beside it lies the famous Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of dense cosmic dust shaped like a horse’s head, silhouetted against glowing hydrogen gas behind it.
These nebulae are vast stellar nurseries where new stars are actively forming, hidden deep within clouds of gas and dust. Photographing them together reveals an incredible contrast between bright emission nebulae and dark absorption nebulae, showcasing the beauty and complexity of our universe.
