Well ๐Ÿ’ฉ that didn't quite go to plan!

This morning we left Bathurst and headed out to Newbridge, looking forward to a few days at the showgrounds and the upcoming event.

Unfortunately, after recent rain, the spot allocated for us was just a little too soft for 18 tonnes of Alphabet Bus.

Thankfully our recovery boards earned their keep and we managed to get ourselves back out without needing a tow. Considering we're currently looking after Caz's bus and dogs as well while she is back in W.A , we are pretty happy we only bogged one bus and not two! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thank you to the Newbridge team Jacquie and Ken, who tried to find us a place to park while event planning, the showgrounds themselves look like a wonderful place to stay. Had the ground been a little drier or if we could have parked up the top it would have been perfect for us...maybe next time.

As for today's travels? We drove from Bathurst to Newbridge... got bogged... got unstuck... then drove all the way back to Bathurst again. That's fuel efficiency right there! ๐Ÿคฃ

Tonight we're parked up at a Blue Diamond Inn roadside, a little muddier, a little wiser, and with a much greater appreciation for recovery boards.

Anyone else got a "drove somewhere, immediately regretted it, then drove back where you started" story? ๐Ÿ˜†

A beautiful, quiet spot with stunning views across the water.

There are plenty of places to walk, a boat ramp if you want to get on the water, and you can stay for up to 14 days. Carcoar the town time forgot (later post) is a hop skip n a jump down the road as is Balayney. The dam itself is worth exploring too.

Best of all... it's FREE!

A great little donation camp that ticked plenty of boxes for us.

What really made this stop stand out was the extra little touches. There's a shed stocked with books, board games, tennis rackets and balls, plus some gym equipment for anyone wanting to keep active on the road.

Of course, we couldn't resist testing out the playground and "try" play tennis on the courts. Let's just say there was plenty of enthusiasm involved, even if the skill level is still a work in progress! ๐Ÿ˜‚

A great little stopover with plenty of room for larger rigs.

The campground is set in a designated area around the oval with marked bays. Access is easy in dry conditions, however we arrived shortly after rain and while the ground happily held our 18-tonne setup, there were definitely a few spots that looked a little touch-and-go.

The camp itself was quiet, with plenty of grass for the doggos to enjoy and enough space that you don't feel crowded.

This was one of those places where we planned a quick stop and ended up staying a few days!

Located right in town, the campground makes a great base for exploring the area. One of our favourite discoveries was the beautiful little rainforest walk that starts almost straight from the campground. Expect moss-covered logs, mushrooms galore, wallabies, and a lovely river to wander alongside.

Cann River itself is a friendly little town. The community op shop, tucked away behind the visitor information centre, was well worth a browse and produced a few treasures. As for food, Snaffle was our clear favourite. Amazing food, fantastic coffee, and some of the best customer service we've experienced in a very long time.

The campground is free, pet friendly, and big-rig friendly, although larger setups may need to get a little creative with parking depending on how busy it is.

(Catch up reviews ) What a great camp! No facilities, but plenty of space, beautiful green grass, and lots of water nearby.

One of our favourite parts was spending time on the pontoons / mini jetties, just watching the incredible amount of wildlife around the camp. There always seemed to be something moving, swimming, flying, or making noise in the trees.

The road in is gravel and fairly rutted, which did result in some minor damage for us (see last photo),

There's heaps of room for larger rigs, and while some areas were a little overgrown, a quick run with the whipper snipper sorted that out for us. We stayed for 4 days and would happily have stayed longer, but with rain forecast and not wanting to risk getting bogged, we decided to move on while the going was good.

Quite a few people asked about our GPS in an earlier post, so here's the rundown

We use a **Garmin Dezl Truck GPS**.

Unlike a standard car GPS, you enter your vehicle's height, weight and dimensions, and it helps keep you away from things like low bridges, low clearances, weight-restricted roads and other obstacles that can ruin your day in a big vehicle!

It also gives warnings for steep hills, including the distance and grade percentage for climbs/ decents over 6%, which is handy when you're piloting an 18-tonne brick through the mountains!

Ours is an older model now, around 5โ€“6 years old, and sometimes it feels like it's taking us the loooooong way around. But when we compare the route to Google Street View, there's usually a very good reason โ€” a low bridge, tight street or weight restriction we didn't know about.

They're definitely not the cheapest GPS on the market, (although cheaper than app subscriptions we would otherwise have paid) but for us it's been worth it especially in Tassie and we'd happily recommend one to anyone travelling in a larger vehicle ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ‘

Side note using the gps to enter information is clunky at best, but good news, you can send straight from your Google maps (what we do) and then shape the route on the GPS if needed.

BESTIE DAY OUT ๐ŸšŒโœŒ๏ธ๐ŸŒผ

We stayed in a little town called Woodstock, and being just a tiny bit hippie (okay... maybe that's underselling it ๐Ÿ˜†), we simply couldn't resist a slightly unhinged photoshoot in front of the Woodstock sign.

Sure, it's not the real Woodstock, and no one was handing out flower crowns or starting a music festival, but why let reality get in the way of a good photo opportunity?

For a few minutes we were living our best hippie fantasy, spreading peace, love, and interesting poses beside a country road sign. ๐ŸŒปโœŒ๏ธ๐ŸšŒ

Sometimes the best days on the road aren't the big attractions or famous landmarks. Sometimes they're just two grown adults spotting a sign, looking at each other, and saying, "Yep... we're absolutely stopping for photos."

Been pretty slack on the old camp reviews lately.

But that's mainly because we've been doing a lot of roadside hopping and overnight stops rather than settling into the more traditional free camps.

We'll try and get a few proper camp reviews up during the week for those who follow along for the camping spots ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’š
