A little creative experimentation at Honeysuckle last night. 📸

Playing with flash, movement and a slower shutter to mix a sharp portrait with the colour and movement of the city lights behind.

Definitely a technique I’d like to experiment with more.

📸 World Photography Day – 19 August

Ever wondered why we celebrate photography on 19 August?

On this day in 1839, the daguerreotype photographic process was formally presented to the world in Paris. The French government made the process publicly available as a “gift to the world”, helping photography begin its incredible journey into the art form we know today.
From silver-coated plates to film, digital cameras and everything in between, photography continues to give us a way to capture moments, tell stories and preserve history.

A pretty good reason to pick up a camera. 📷

Not every photograph needs to show a face.

Sometimes the strongest stories come from watching someone quietly take in the view.

The late afternoon light, calm water and the iconic Nobbys Lighthouse created one of those peaceful moments that reminded me why I always carry a camera.

Timeless. Elegant. Classic.

There are some combinations that just seem made for black and white.

A beautiful bride, a classic convertible and a quiet moment amongst the trees. What really caught my eye with this image, though, was the reflection across the bonnet — almost creating a second portrait within the photograph.

For me, it's those little unexpected details that can turn a portrait into something more.

Yesterday’s Photowalk | Newcastle

A few frames from yesterday wandering around Newcastle with the camera.

The changing weather made for an interesting afternoon — rain, heavy skies, bursts of light and plenty happening along the coastline.

Rather than heading out looking for one particular image, I simply walked, watched and photographed whatever caught my attention.

People sheltering from the rain, a surfer heading into the water, the lines and shapes around the Ocean Baths, a few local characters and, eventually, a pretty spectacular storm moving across the coast.

Sometimes a photowalk is simply about slowing down and seeing what you find.

A little bit country, a little bit couture. 💙

I loved the contrast in this scene — the flowing blue dress against the weathered timber, corrugated iron and old tack.

There’s something about bringing two very different worlds together that makes an image interesting. The elegance and movement of the dress feels almost unexpected in this rustic setting, while the hat and boots tie the whole scene together.

Every city has buildings that quietly tell its story.

This historic building has become a familiar sight during my Artist in Residence at TAFE NSW - Newcastle Art School . Walking past it in the late afternoon light, it seemed fitting to stop and capture it.

I couldn't help but capture this scene. The longer I looked at it, the more it spoke to me about resilience. One flag stood proudly against the afternoon breeze, while the other had surrendered to the wind. It was a simple reminder that we all face the same conditions, but each of us responds differently.

Last year they asked me to capture this amazing event and this year I'll be back doing the same donating my time and skills.

Every wall has a story. Some just wear it a little louder.

Hidden within the old Queens Wharf building, these graffiti-covered walkways tell a story that's constantly changing. Layer upon layer of paint, weather and time have transformed simple concrete into something far more expressive.

I was drawn to the geometry as much as the graffiti itself—the lines of the ramps, the contrast of light and shadow, and the monochrome treatment that lets the textures take centre stage.

Sometimes street photography isn't about people. Sometimes it's about the spaces they've left their mark on.
