âWhat is your style of art?
My art is first nations traditional cultural arts dance, song, painting making traditional artifacts like clap sticks, didgeridoo, spear.
âTell us a bit about what you do.
Iâve been learning cultural education and handling it down to the next generation. Over the years my cultural art is in everything I do in my daily life, observing mother natureâs beautiful landscapes and animals telling stories about the land and the connection with me and my Gamilaroi people have had on this land for thousands of years.
âHow long have you been creating your art and what does your art mean to you?
Iâve been doing this professionally for 17 or more years, since I was young took 15yr old I always played didgeridoo, yidaki, and danced around the house when I was a little kid my nanny Pam Smith would teach us culture through songs in language and traditional dance & painting, also my mother and father Charmaine lamb and Michael Smith was big influence. Mum was a very popular artist with her paintings and spiritual well knowledgeable about our cultural protocols and rules. Mat Priestley, Gwenda Stanley, Gumaroy Newman, Russel Dawson⌠too many to mention that mentored me. I had to travel out of town to meet people to learn other things about my tribe, dances & information that I couldn't find in my community and bringing it back here started dance group at 17 years old and never looked back. I am lucky to be guided by such beautiful and strong people.
âWhat shall we expect to see you bring to Narrabriâs Heart of Art?
I'll bring local Narrabri Gamilaroi cultural arts, showcasing young gen dancing. I could do couple of dance pieces myself, but I feel greedy if I do. Iâve travelled around the country teaching and showcasing my culture, Collarenebri, Sydney, Brisbane, Rockhampton Coffs Harbour, Melbourne, Tennent Creek, & Canberra.
