I am humbled and grateful for the recognition my work received at this year’s Sandy Smith competition, especially alongside so many talented photographers.

To have seven images recognised in total—receiving two 1st places, two 2nd places, and three highly commended nods— reminds me why I enjoy photography.

Capertee Valley

Known as the world’s second widest enclosed valley, the scale of the landscape is truly immense; however, it pales in comparison to the vast night sky.

Taken on 11 april 2026 at Capertee Lookout overlooking Newnes & Wolgan. The bright light in the lower left is light polution from Lithgow.
