Opening tomorrow!
Super excited for this Exhibition , . Opening August 11th in the Inverell Art Gallery ! Read on for Kaliโs beautiful words on her connection to Inverell and the country .
I'm taking Coast to Country on the road and am headed up to Inverell, NSW to showcase just a glimpse of the beauty of rural and regional NSW through my art. This exhibition is an extra special one for me - I booked it in last year knowing my Pop wouldn't be able to make it to my March exhibition in Gloucester. So instead, I would bring my art to him.
As a kid, Pop would take my sister and I on his early morning trips to the racetrack at Inverell, letting us help as he fed the horses. Giggling, we'd dip our hands into the bucket of molasses and lick the sweet, black syrup from our fingers. The smell of the early morning dew, lucern hay and dusty warmth of the horses moved something inside of me (and all the horsey people nod their heads - IYKYK). These quiet mornings at the stables, combined with all Pop's stories of being in the saddle and working with horses, became a massive contributing factor when I chose to study Agriculture after high school. I'll never forget how proud he was when, at 16, I told him I'd landed my first job on a Thoroughbred Stud.
Sadly, Pop passed away just days after his 90th birthday celebrations earlier this year, so I'm dedicating this one to him. Pop's deep love for family, good mates and his horses will forever inspire me. I wont soon forget the sound of his voice asking me, "How's Nick? Good? And what about that old clydesdale?"
Love you, Pop.
