Great to see a decent sized flock of one of Australias critically endangered birds, the Swift Parrot at Plenty Gorge.

They were fairly high up in the canopy while I was there - having a good feed, zipping around and enjoying themselves.

I believe until recent reports that they haven’t been sighted at Plenty Gorge before. Hopefully it’s provided a regular food supply for these precious parrots that they can return to.

B***y Bird Count ***y

14/06/2026

The Mega rarity Cocos B***y at Lake Macquarie in New South Wales having a wash.

Taken handheld with Nikon Z9 Z600mm lens on a small boat - gotta love stability tech these days.

Nice to meet Tom and another couple of Birders (sorry forgot your names)

Thanks to Cooper for skippering us to the bird - thoroughly recommend!

Silver Gull scored a meal the other morning in the Elwood canals - my instinct is that it’s a discarded fish or someone chucked it to the bird just before I got there or maybe scavenged off another bird - anyway, it took a few attempts but eventually swallowed it whole !

Fun to watch ! 🐟

Just 3 days left to have your say for wildlife! The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is seeking feedback on a proposal to declare Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs) as Restricted Chemical Products (RCPs).

This is the next step following the exciting (long overdue) recommendation by the APVMA in March.

Put in a submission by 5pm (AEST) (3pm WA time) 11 June to say that it's essential for Restricted Chemical Product registration for SGARs to proceed to protect wildlife from these deadly rodent pest control products.

Please shout out YES for our beautiful owls and other wildlife. It's easy and only takes a few moments.

Who goes to the Western Treatment Plant on the first day of winter and gets caught in the rain ?

Got to see a few nice birds.

White-bellied Sea Eagle was a highlight and using pre-capture mode for some Welcome Swallow shots - Nikon need to get their s**z together and make the pre capture files RAW not 5MP only
