As we reflect on Seward’s celebration of Pride Month and World Oceans Day this past weekend, we celebrate the vibrant diversity of life on this planet, both marine and human. 🏳️‍🌈

At the Alaska SeaLife Center, our work is rooted in science and guided by respect, empathy, and a belief in the value of every individual.

We care deeply for the ocean, its ecosystems, and the communities (human and wild) that depend on them. In a world that can feel divided, we stay focused on what unites us: a shared commitment to understanding, protecting, and celebrating the incredible diversity of life on this planet.

Everyone needs a grumpy puppy.

Local coyote participates in Take A Grumpy Puppy to Work Day.

Coyotes and badgers (aka grumpy puppy) will form a mutually beneficial relationship to get food. These unlikely besties are known to hunt together and can even be more successful hunting prairie dogs and ground squirrels when they work in tandem.

Here's a little bit more about the power couple everyone is talking about and their unique way of occasionally teaming up: http://ow.ly/2kXN50NL2wo

POV: you splurged on those department store studio portraits, and they are 🔥 🔥 !!!

Hellbenders are the largest amphibians in North America and can be found crawling around the bottoms of clear, silt-free mountain streams in the eastern and central United States. They are generally nocturnal, spending most of the day under rocks on the stream floor, emerging at night to hunt.

Hellbenders breathe primarily through their skin and rely on cool, well-oxygenated, flowing water. They also have the best nicknames - snot otter, devil dog, old lasagna sides and more.

We have some tips on how you can help this "Appalachian River wizard": https://www.fws.gov/story/hellbenders-fantastic-beasts
