Kumari- The living goddess

A Kumari is a young, prepubescent girl selected from the Shakya or Bajracharya clans of the Newar community. She is believed to be the earthly manifestation of the goddess Taleju (a form of Durga). Unlike other deities carved from stone or wood, the Kumari is a living, breathing human being who is worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists.
