Chasing first light at Zenith Beach ๐ŸŒ…
On a quick getaway to Port Stephens, I arrived in the dark and set off in search of a composition โ€” drawn to a cluster of rocks where the waves wrapped and flowed around them. Then, just as everything lined up, a quick burst of colour lit the sky โ€” perfectly timed with the movement of the water.

A fleeting moment, gone almost as quickly as it arrived.

First light in Port Stephens ๐ŸŒ…
On a quick getaway, I found myself back at a favourite stretch of coastline โ€” drawn to the lines of rock leading out toward the Shoal Bay passage. As the sun rose behind the mountains, the first light traced its way across the scene, bringing everything to life.

Simple compositions, quiet mornings, and a place that always delivers.

A quieter flow at Somersby Falls ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ง
The waterfall wasnโ€™t quite as strong as expected after the rain, so I ventured around to the other side โ€” finding a frame between two branches that gave the scene a different perspective.

Balancing on wet ground and surrounded by undergrowth made it a bit of a challengeโ€ฆ and just as I got a few shots, I felt a leech making its way up my leg โ€” that was my cue to call it.

Not the most comfortable shoot, but sometimes the best images come with a story.

Early light and a dramatic sky ๐ŸŒ…
Climbing onto the rock shelf in the quiet of the morning, I wandered along the platform until this weathered rock caught my eye โ€” shaped over time by the constant force of the wind and ocean. With the sun rising on the horizon, the scene came together in a mix of calm and drama.

A reminder of how the coast is always changing, slowly carving out something unique.

A big swell at Avoca ๐ŸŒŠ
The ocean had other plans this morning โ€” cutting off my path to the rock shelf and keeping me on the sidelines. From there I watched as one surfer carefully picked his way across the ledge, water surging over it, until he reached the tip of the outcrop.

Pausing for a moment, watching the setsโ€ฆ then ready to dive in. A different kind of timing, a different kind of courage.

First light on the south side of the Skillion ๐ŸŒ…
A very low tide revealed the lines in the rock, and while the swell was quiet at first, it slowly picked up โ€” just enough to send waves flowing along the rock face as the sun crested the horizon.

One of those mornings where everything builds gently โ€” light, movement, and the moment coming together right on cue.

Waiting on the tide at Foresters Beach ๐ŸŒŠ
Watching the sets roll in, timing each one as the water spilled across the rock shelf and fanned out into soft, fleeting patterns. A game of patience and rhythm โ€” knowing the right wave will always come if you wait long enough.

Not much colour in the sky this morning, but the incoming tide brought the scene to life โ€” water flowing and weaving over the rock shelf, making its own kind of magic.

Wet feet, but worth it for the movement and the moment. ๐ŸŒŠ

A moody sunrise at Avoca Beach ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ
Two frames, one moment โ€” captured differently.
Slowing things down with a long exposure to soften the water and stretch the clouds, then switching to a faster shutter to hold onto the movement and texture as the waves flowed over the rock shelf.

Same light, same scene โ€” just a different way of telling the story.

Sunrise at Winnie Bay ๐ŸŒ…
Found a natural channel in the rock platform leading the eye straight to a lone rock, and waited as the waves cascaded perfectly over it. Moments like this are all about composition, timing, and letting the ocean do the rest.

First light at Winnie Bay ๐ŸŒ…
The sun just peeking over the horizon, casting a golden glow across a quiet rockpool teeming with sea life. A small window into the ocean world, lit up for a brief moment as the coast slowly wakes for the day.
