Light and shadow, line and form. The Sun in the "wrong" place for a photograph, and a palette almost destitute of colour. This is image making my way. (Walking the new tram-lines in Sydney's centre, mid-Winter).

Capturing the image from a low level, and angling the lens upward, is a good way to contrast the subject against a bare sky. In this capture, rather than the subject taking centre place, and being surrounded by the sky and earth, I have instead let the blank sky take centre place, and it is framed between the subjects of person and structure. I think this makes a more refreshing composition.

Peaceful morning at Sydney University. This shot was taken using pinhole photography. Instead of glass lenses, the focusing device is a piece of metal foil with a pin-hole in it. (That's all!). The diameter of the hole is about the same as the thickness of a piece of paper. The soft and dreamy look is typical of pinhole work.

When people think of Sunsets, they often think of ocean or mountain vistas. For me, the city Sunsets are still the best. A sign of the Summer to come.
