The Rutherglen Tastes of Art Prize is on until next Sunday 20th March. I entered a few pieces of work and was very excited to win the open section in Photography. This image here is part of a canvas panorama that is in the exhibition titled 'The Forest of Light'. Thank you to for organising this event and the kind support of the many local businesses that provided sponsorship. My prize money was kindly sponsored by The Other Place (Rutherglen - Cafe). There are so many amazing pieces of art of display that it is well worth the visit.

ANTHOTYPES! What on earth are they? Well, they're actually a lot of fun! I've been exploring the historic natural process of using plant pigments and the sun to create Anthotypes using my photographs. THANK YOU to who provided me with a grant under the $ummer 2021 round of UNLOCKED to undertake this work. The process has been so enjoyable from researching and experimenting with suitable plants, creating colour charts and emulsions, preparing papers, choosing photographs to use as positives and practicing the patience of waiting for the sun to work it's magic. This goes from hours to days and weeks depending on the plants. It's what you'd call 'slow photography!' Due to the uncontrollable variation in each process, results are unpredictable making each image a 'one of' that always has an element of surprise! If you'd like to try, you could begin with spinach and some objects such as leaves from the garden. This is a quick one to process being done in 2 hours! You'll see this in the photos. The horses were done with red cabbage over several days. 🌿

The Federation Art and Photo Prize is currently being held at Corowa, NSW until Tuesday 2nd November. I was fortunate to have some success with some of my entries. This image received the Illustrative Photograph Prize. I couldn't resist getting a little creative with our local water tower at Howlong. Titled 'The Unknown', to me it symbolises how I feel about our ongoing situation with the pandemic.

The beautiful Columbine flower known as Granny's Bonnet reminds me of the past and rambling cottage gardens. I'm sure if you're also a keen gardener you will agree how enjoyable it was to call in to visit family and friends and chat whilst having a wander through the garden. Lets hope those days will return and we can all relax and enjoy each others company again. 🌸

The poppy is symbolic for 'recovery' This week I took a visit to the 'Lake View House' in Chiltern, Victoria. For a brief time this was the home of author Ethel Florence Lindesay Richardson, better known by her pen name Henry Handel Richardson and her book 'The Getting of Wisdom'. The home and gardens are open to the public and managed by The National Trust. 🌸🌳✏️

The vibrant blue flag iris with the contrasting yellow are a great display in the garden. It's nice to have an end of day wander in the backyard as the days get warmer and longer.

I love walking through the River Red gum floodplain that surrounds where I live. The textures and colours of the bark are stunning, especially when lit by the morning sunlight. 🌳☀️

It's nice to enjoy the variety of blossom as we move through spring. They're very fleeting, so we should take the time to admire them while they're here! 🌸

These anemones are a welcome visitor to my garden appearing in early Spring. I can't resist their delicate beauty🌸. Legend has it; fairy folk are believed to hide in the anemone’s petals and close them up when there is a threat of rain 🧚🌧. They do seem like the perfect flower for a fairy to hide in, and every garden holds a little magic, wouldn't you agree?☺️
