In the early morning, on the charter boat Pauletta, heading out to look at pelagic birds is always full of promise. In particular, for me, that I'll see interesting birds in circumstances that make beautiful photos. On this May morning, the light on the rocks at the entrance to the bay with a gull b...

Nothing beats great light and beautiful scenery.

It's been a long time since I posted. This is due to my heartbreak caused by the mob hosting my website.

When I set it up, I chose Zenfolio as a dedicated photography focused hosting platform. I've poured so much of myself into that site.... and little by little they've stripped features and crippled it's usefulness. A couple of months ago they announced they were mothballing the current users and starting a new site. I've not seen anything on migration, and I've been floundering trying to come up with a good way forward. In effect I've been road blocked and not publishing recent photos that I'm proud of.

I'll work it out, but for now I'm committing to publishing again. Here is the first.

Taken from Fossil Bay lookout in the early morning before heading out to look at pelagic birds. Trying new things and compositions.

Sometimes you need to stop and look behind you.

Haliastur sphenurus (Whistling Kite) IUCN Status: Least Concern I don't often shoot backlit. Most of the time I'm looking 190 degrees away form the sun for animals in good light. Sometimes though, the shot is just too good, too obvious. Walking between locations a kite landed on this dead tree, and....
