Teamโs Crit
A little cool to start off the day, but it was perfect weather for a bike race. Our teamโs crit was enjoyed by all, and spectators were treated to some impressive bike riding.
An enormous shout out to our volunteers i.e. Mandy and Waz; Toni and Tony; and Katie and Adam for their incredible support. It was fantastic to see Dan out at trackside. We all wish Dan a speedy recovery. A big welcome to Brandon โ this was Brandonโs first race with the club and he did extremely well. It was also great to have Aaron and Jen along from Bundaberg. Both riders are valued competitors and always add to the quality of the race.
As intimated, we had 5 teams competing. Each team consisted of one A, B and C competitor. It was the job of the A grade rider to look after the B/C rider which meant that the majority of riders kept close together.
The team structure was as follows:
Group 1: Adam, Fi, Byron
Group 2: Phil, Tim, Jen
Group 3: Bryn, Brandon, Alex
Group 4: Jake, Kaliki, Boston
Group 5: Aaron, Archie, Belinda
Racing commenced at 7:30AM with a flurry of activity and enthusiasm. For the majority of the race, the group remained together but things changed quickly with 2 laps to go. The final lap for C grade saw riders covering the left-hand side of the road and led out by their teams. Congratulations to Belinda 1st; Jen 2nd and Alex 3rd. Special mention โ Byron. He rode extremely well for such a long period of time.
A and B grade had 2 laps to regroup via neutral laps, but once everyone was back together, it was race face on. Archie, Fi and Kaliki all rode up in the higher division and displayed incredible determination and skill. All riders were well protected by their A grade team member, which meant high speeds and clever positioning. In the final B grade sprint Tim took line honours followed by Fi 2nd and Brandon 3rd. Archie rode extremely well for this extended period of time.
After 1 last neutral lap, A grade regrouped and fought through the final 15 minutes of racing. Following a series of attempted attacks and decisive positioning, the last lap was the lap that mattered. With 200m to go, attackers reunited with Adam taking 1st place followed by Bryn, a very close 2nd and Aaron, a notable 3rd. Great racing everyone.
Congratulations to the following teams:
1st: Group 3 โ Bryn, Brandon, Alex
2nd: Group 2 โ Phil, Tim, Jen / Group 1 โ Adam, Fi, Byron (Equal Points)
3rd: Group 5 โ Aaron, Archie, Belinda
Congratulations everyone, a great morning of racing.
Next week, we do not have any planned racing.
We take this opportunity to wish our Juniors the very best as they compete in the Jrn. Competition at the Gold Coast.
The club will hold a gravel group ride next Sunday. Details will be posted during the forth coming week.
Have a great week everyone.
