These images are a reminded of my greatest shot, never taken.
I was driving along a road just outside of Penshurst, Victoria, when I saw a mother fox, sitting on top of round hay bales, nursing her three fox pups.
Off course, I only saw them for a split second before they were obscured from view by a plantation. I jumped on the breaks, and did a U turn.
By the time I whipped my camera out of my bag, and swapped lenses, the mother vixen was onto my presence and hurried disappeared before my eyes as I was trying to cross the highway to get close enough to take the photo.
The pups were less concerned about my presence, and played on the hay bales as they slowly made their way to their den. They were curious little pups, stopping momentarily, to look at me before also disappearing.
The image of a mother fox nursing her three young is forever imprinted on my mind. It is a once in a life time shot, but was not to be recorded, except in my memory.
