Well… our little last-minute Halloween setup ended up being way too much fun. 😂🎃

We originally put this together just to take some photos of our boys, then decided at the last minute to open it up for some free photos too.

Now I’m already thinking about next Halloween… 👀

I’d love to bring Halloween Minis to The Mellor Perspective next year, something along these lines, with a mix of fun, colourful photos and a few slightly creepy ones for the kids who are into that sort of thing. 😂

So before I get carried away planning something 12 months early…

I’ve been a little quiet on here lately… but for the loveliest reason 🤎

My beautiful cousin married the love of his life — and honestly, she is such a sweetie! 🥹 We had the most wonderful time celebrating them, and I took a few days to just enjoy being with family.

There’s a lot more that goes into a newborn photo than what you see in the finished image. 🤎

When someone hands me their brand-new baby, I’m very aware of just how much trust they’re placing in me. Creating beautiful images is important, but knowing how to do that safely is even more important.

That’s why I’ve invested in newborn-specific training and qualifications, including becoming an APNPI Qualified Newborn Photographer and completing dedicated Newborn Safety training.

Newborns aren’t little models who can simply be placed into a position. Every baby is different. I watch how they’re moving, how comfortable they are, and what they’re naturally happy to do. If a baby doesn’t want to settle into a particular pose, we don’t force it; we move on.

Some of the beautiful newborn images you see can also involve careful positioning, hands-on support or compositing to make sure baby is never put at unnecessary risk just for a photograph.

Because at the end of the day, the photo is never more important than the little person in it. 🤎

And here they are! 🤎

I said I couldn’t wait to share some of the formal family portraits from Jeanelle’s session, and these are exactly why.

I absolutely love how these turned out. Beautiful, timeless family portraits, but still completely them, and of course we couldn’t leave one very important family member out! 🐾😂

This session was such a lovely mix of celebrating Jeanelle turning 9 and creating family photos they can keep for years to come.

I think we need to see more families in the studio like this. 🤎

Who says birthday photos are only for the little ones? 🎈💕

Jeanelle came in to celebrate turning 9 and brought ALL the personality with her 😂

Balloons, cupcakes, confetti and plenty of laughs, this was such a fun way to capture exactly who she is at 9. I think the confetti may have been a favourite… although I’m still finding pieces of it in the studio 😂

And this isn’t the last you’ll see of this gorgeous girl either! We also took some formal family portraits while they were here, and I am SO excited to share them.
I’m honestly a little bit in love with how they turned out. 🤎

Oh, bother… 🍯🤎

I absolutely loved putting this little Winnie the Pooh-inspired setup together. From the tiny bear suit and Hunny pot to the little bees and, of course, Pooh himself, there were so many sweet little details to capture.

I love being able to take something a family loves and weave it into their newborn session, while still keeping the focus exactly where it belongs, on their beautiful little bub.

And I don’t think those tiny feet dangling off the shelf could possibly be any cuter. 🥹
