DAY 1 IN LITCHFIELD

We packed a lot into our first day exploring this incredible part of the NT…

~ Wangi Falls - the perfect spot to start the day. Head there early to beat the crowds like we did… as we were leaving it was getting busy!
~ Greenant Creek - a walk through the rainforest (my absolute favourite types if walks!) to Tjaetaba Falls lookout & falls where we enjoyed jumping off into the pool
~ Buley Rockholes - natural rock pools = happy kids!
~ Florence Falls - what a way to finish the day! This was a beautiful spot with easy access for everyone

So many swims, walks, waterfalls and plenty of adventures along the way.

Litchfield National Park, you beauty!

Middle Lagoon. Think fishing, clear water, boat launching, beach days, epic sunset skies and stars, chilled days, snorkelling and just a good time to wind down! We did a day trip up to One Armed Point and this place was next level!!! It’s been on my list since we started planning and I am so glad we made it there 🩵 add it to your list because watching the tide come in, seeing sharks and turtles go by and fishing off the rocks was 👌🏼

THE GIBB RIVER ROAD…DONE!!!

1,000,000+ corrugations. Red dust EVERYWHERE. Baby wipe showers. Freshwater swims. Camp fires. Waterfalls. Crocodiles. Bush wees. Dinners cooked on the fire. River crossings and enough shaking around to completely rearrange the contents of our caravan 😂

The casualty list:
Both spotties gone
Every shelf in the caravan fridge & freezer broken
Rhino Rack backbone snapped
Caravan blind broken
Apple Watch lost at Galvans Gorge- not sure if this really should be on here because this could’ve been prevented 🫣
Countless items from the fridge falling out - apparently everything wanted freedom every time we opened the door 😂

The Gibb is wild, rugged, remote and absolutely beautiful. It pushed us, tested the car, tested the van… and occasionally showed how unfit we were…

But would we recommend it? Absolutely.

Would we do it again? WITHOUT A DOUBT. Because underneath the broken bits, red dust and corrugations, it was one of the most incredible adventures we’ve ever had. We’d 100% take it much slower next time, there’s a few things we sadly missed but just means we have to do it again right?!

Now tell us… would you tackle the Gibb River Road? Or if you have, what was the best part?!

Tunnel Creek had us wading through water, seeing bats, finding cherabin and croc spotting.

Windjana Gorge is pretty amazing - it’s part of the Devonian reef system which is 375 millions years old, so before dinosaurs were around. It’s literally an ancient underwater world! Lots of freshies catching some rays, which was cool to watch!

Bell Gorge - This was such a beautiful spot but then all these spots are so beautiful! Can’t stop chasing waterfalls 😉😊 ...
