Something a little different for you today that you're likely to love or hate. Click the image link to see the full image!

This is an evening view from Kirra Hill on the Gold Coast. The greatest challenge of this image was getting the white balance correct with so many different light sources present.

f8 - 20 sec - ISO200 @ 28mm

Tip: Why did I shoot at f8? If you want that starburst affect on lights in your photo, choose an aperture that has a number >= the number of aperture blades in your lens. My 24-105mm lense has 8!

Hope you're having a great day!

Well it's about time I posted another photo...

This is 'Coolangatta Days', an abstract photo I took in the morning sun from Coolangatta beach. My favourite colour is blue and what I love about this image is all of those different blue shades present.

f22 - 55sec - ISO50 @ 105mm. *Hoya ND400 filter.

*What's an ND400 filter?
The only way to smooth the ocean waves and water was to use a long exposure (55 seconds). To do this with your camera in broad daylight is impossible, as your image will always be horribly overexposed (pure white actually).

Solution? Call in the ND400 filter, which is essentially a very dark piece of glass screwed on front of the lense that reduces the light entering your camera by 9 stops, whilst not changing the colour of the scene (ND stands for Neutral Density).

The small aperture and low ISO I dialled in, was also to reduce the amount of light as much as possible. Got it? :)

Leon.

After spending way too long doing it myself, I'm very pleased with the result and I hope you are too. Take a look now and share, share, share!

Hi everyone!

I'd have to say this could be my favourite place on earth - Greenmount beach on the Gold Coast. This was shot around 20 minutes after sunset so that the brightness of the sky and the land are balanced. I hope you like it and feel free to share.

f8 - 60sec - ISO100 @ 28mm
