📸 Outback Icons Under the Stars – Bonney Well, NT

In the heart of Australia's Northern Territory, Bonney Well offers a surreal blend of grit, color, and cosmic wonder—and this image captures it all. A bold red windmill, emblazoned with the branding COMET which stands proud against a backdrop of the Milky Way, its blades glowing with warm hues of orange and crimson. Beside it, a graffiti-tagged tank bursts with the word ESCAPE, adding a rebellious splash of urban flair to the remote desert landscape.

This shot is more than just a visual feast—it’s a story. The juxtaposition of rural machinery and street art under a sky teeming with stars speaks to the spirit of the Territory: raw, creative, and unapologetically free. The long exposure reveals the galactic sweep above, reminding us that even in the most rugged corners of Australia, beauty and meaning are written across the sky.

Perfect for lovers of astro, outback, and roadside culture, this image is a tribute to the wild soul of Bonney Well.

🟢💛💙 Rainbow Bee-eater at Hamelin Pool, W.A. 💙💛🟢
Perched on a slender branch in the heart of Hamelin Pool, this Rainbow Bee-eater is a living brushstroke—turquoise wings, golden throat, chestnut crown, and that sharp black eye-stripe. A moment of stillness in a life built for motion.

🐝 Migrating from northern Australia and New Guinea, these birds head south in spring to breed—often choosing open woodlands and coastal spots like this. Their hunting style? Mid-air acrobatics to sn**ch bees, wasps, dragonflies, and butterflies. Then a quick rub against the perch (just like this one) to disarm the sting before the feast.

This year, we had the privilege of attending the 30th anniversary of the Man From Snowy River bush Festival — a celebration held deep in the heartlands of the Snowy River and Victorian High Country.

It was a year not to miss, especially with the incredible re-enactment of scenes from the iconic film 'The Man From Snowy River'.

How's this for a moment — captured here is one of the distinguished gentlemen who rode with the 11th Light Horse Darling Downs Troop. After firing his loaded rifle, he swiftly re-mounted and continued the charge — a true nod to the spirit and skill of the riders from generations past.

Proud is an understatement. These men, their horsemanship, and their dedication to preserving history are something to admire. Even better, it was also a pleasure to speak with after the show.

Moments like these remind us why we return to places like this year after year.

Woke up in the wee hours of this morning, Being Friday 11.10.2024, to the return of the breathtaking Aurora! A G4 Storm was confirmed, and I couldn’t resist the call. With my alarm pending, I jumped out of bed and drove to my favorite sky-watching spot close to home but with views for days. Managed to set up the GoPro just in time to capture this morning’s spectacular light show. Hope you enjoy the magic that unfolded in the skies! 🌌✨

Intermediate Egret, / Yellow waters

This common bird is found in a wide range of habitats around Eastern and Northern Australia.
On our recent travels through Kakadu, we were presented with the elegant display of the Egret walking through the lake grasses... With the crocodiles around here.. would be the last place you'd catch me looking for food 😋

Mertens' water monitor, a monitor lizard species, is unique to northern Australia. Its opportunistic feeding habits and adaptability make it a successful predator in aquatic and riparian habitats.
