There’s a specific kind of grace that only a leopard shark has. The way they glide, their intricate patterns, and their long, flowing tail—it’s like watching art in motion.

I could spend hours watching them move across the sand, completely unhurried, their golden patterns standing out against the blue.

They’re also commonly known as zebra sharks. “Leopard shark” is common name used in some places, including Australia, for the same species.

There are very few encounters I would consider “perfect,” but this was one of them ✨

The Ningaloo has been full of beautiful surprises this week, and one of the best was this stunning Bottlenose Wedgefish.

The water was incredibly clear, and the cloudy sky created a moody blue atmosphere that made the whole scene feel like a dream.

It was amazing to watch those little golden trevallies following along, lighting up the scene against the blue water.

While they can be quite shy, this one was just cruising slowly over the sand flats.

A moment I’ll be thinking about for a long time 💙

An unexpected guest in the heart of August ✨

It’s rare to cross paths with a whale shark this late in the season in Coral Bay. I haven’t shared the water with one since June, so when the plane spotted her while we were searching for humpbacks, it felt like a total gift from the Ningaloo.

She was an adorable female, followed by a massive entourage of remoras—a literal floating ecosystem moving through the crystal-clear blue. She even took a moment to chase our bubbles before heading back into the deep.

There’s something so special about these encounters when you aren’t looking for them. A reminder that this reef always has a surprise waiting if you’re patient enough. ⚓️💙

Have you ever seen a manta this beautiful? 🖤✨

The visibility has finally cleared up, and the Ningaloo decided to show off. We spent the morning with a beautiful female manta who might be a new addition to the catalog.

She gave us a masterclass in curiosity—gliding in close to check me out, dropping right down into the blue, and then returning for one perfect flip before heading off. It’s a rare privilege when a manta decides you’re worth the extra look, and these are the moments I dream of when I’m out on the water. ⚓️💙

Sharing the water with this giant is a reminder of how much we still have to discover about our local marine life here in Western Australia. 🌊

The ocean is where I feel most at home, and no matter the species, sharing the water with whales is a feeling that stays with you.

This was my first great encounter with a pod of pygmy killer whales. They are such an incredible, social species—witnessing their tight bonds and the way they move together in the water was something else.

A huge thanks to Aimee Jan 💧AJ for capturing these frames of me with the pilot whales; it’s a rare treat to have a memory like this 🙏

July Magic on the Ningaloo 🪸 ✨

Looking back at everything that unfolded the last month and honestly, I’m still speechless. It’s been pure, unrefined wonder on the water.

From the ‘Humpback Highway’ being in full swing to the unexpected encounters that remind me why I love this place, every day has been a privilege. So grateful for this reef and the giants that call it home. 🐋💙

Turn your volume up to hear the most beautiful song in the ocean 🎧🐋🎶

The humpback season has already been absolutely incredible, but today was on another level. We actually got to swim with a ‘singer’—a male humpback suspended head-down, tail-up in the water, filling the ocean with his song.

It’s one thing to hear it, but it’s another to feel it. The low-frequency notes were so powerful they were literally vibrating through our chests.

Whale songs are one of the ocean’s greatest mysteries. Only the males sing, it is believed to be for mate attraction and/or communicate with other males. The songs are incredibly structured and repetitive. What’s even crazier is that an entire population will sing the same song, yet that song is constantly evolving and changing over time.

Researchers suggest this head-down posture helps the song propagate even further through the water, allowing their voice to carry for miles across the blue. ⚓️💙
