On a serious note though, motivation to work at the moment has been a struggle for me, especially in this phase where I am in anticipatory grief with my dog in palliative care.

It's been a struggle to actually try to focus and do the work. I want to spend more quality time with my dog, but I know I have so much stuff to do. But I think there’s times where you need to allow yourself to take a break and give yourself permission not to focus on work because of what you're going through.

But sometimes you do need a bit of that motivation. I realise motivation doesn't come easily sometimes, but once you start taking action you build momentum and then you keep going. That's what I've been doing every day when I've been struggling: I've been trying to do as much as I can and then build momentum from that.

How are you going in your business right now?

If you’ve got no system or plan in place for marketing, staying where you are now and doing nothing is not going to move you forward.

Every month without a marketing plan is another month wondering where the next client is coming from, when am I going to get an enquiry.

With a marketing plan and system in place , you are taking control of this. You can put in place systems that allow you to generate leads when you need bookings.

The Pet Photography Marketing System Workshop starts tomorrow morning AESt (5:30pm ET on 13 May). We’re halfway through the year and this is your sign to start taking control your calendar and create a system to get you more consistent bookings.

This is what it looks like when the marketing doesn’t stop because you got busy.

A repeatable system means the calendar is mapped out on what marketing campaigns and activities I’m going to run, when, what tasks I need to do for it.

I have 16 sessions this month, plus the ordering appointments for these and then editing and delivering these. But I’m still marketing even when I’m busy.

Because I have a plan and a system, I’m just executing what I’ve planned.

We build this marketing calendar system in The Pet Photography Marketing System Workshop. Cart closed May 13 11:59pm AEST

$688.80 in ads. $19,650 in sales.

That was my National Love Your Pet Day competition in February. 191 leads. 13 booked. 6 sessions shot so far. 7 still to come.

Was it my best conversion rate? No. My 2024 competition booked 18 from 74 leads, $400 ad spend and sales totalled just over $38k. But the revenue is speaking for itself.

This is what active marketing does. One campaign, one decision to invest strategically, and the calendar fills.

Most pet photographers are only running passive marketing. Social media, showing up, hoping the algorithm delivers. It’s worth doing. But on its own, quiet months still come.
When you add active campaigns to the mix, you stop reacting and start planning.

This is what I cover in The Pet Photography Marketing System Workshop. Next cohort starts 13 May 5:30pm EDT.

You know that feeling when you buy a course and never implement it? Well… the Pet Photography Marketing System Workshop isn’t that.

There are pre-recorded modules but these are meant to get you prepped for the three live coaching sessions where we implement the work, with my support. These are some of the questions I hear so I wanted to address them.

workshop 1 starts 14 May 7:30AM AEST (13 May 5:30pm ET). Cart closed 13 May.

My client paid me $1,500 before we even had her photo shoot.

This is only possible if you've got all your messaging really aligned, you're talking to your ideal client, and they already know coming into the shoot what they're going to invest, and how important artwork and prints are.

This only works when you have the systems and processes in place, as well as aligned messaging and brand positioning.

The client actually came from my marketing campaign that I ran in February, a giveaway competition. She arrived with a complimentary session plus a credit that allowed her to take a free print or spend it toward any prints and artwork; she chose to spend $1,500 and will likely spend more at the ordering appointment, as this is what usually happens.

I teach all of this, including messaging, aligned positioning, and running marketing campaigns in my upcoming Pet Photography Marketing System Workshop. We start on May 14 at 7:30 a.m. AEST or May 13, 5:30PM ET.

Your clients aren’t just buying your photos.

They’re buying the way you respond to their enquiry. The way you make them feel on the day. The way you show up online.

And if you’ve been hiding behind your camera instead of showing up as yourself, this episode is going to hit differently.

Marissa is a personal brand therapist and former national TV hypnotist. She works at the intersection of neuroscience, subconscious rewiring and personal brand identity. And halfway through our conversation, she turned the tables and started coaching me live on air.

I did not see that coming. But I’m really glad it happened.

The workshop got a rebuild.

Past versions had a problem I couldn’t ignore. People were showing up to the live calls overwhelmed. I was teaching ideal client avatar in real-time. People were taking notes instead of doing the work. The implementation wasn’t happening for most.

So I rebuilt the format.

Pre-recorded teaching modules now go out a week before each session. You watch them at your own pace, do the pre-work, and arrive at the live call ready to apply what you’ve learned. The live time is 100% coaching. Hot seats. Real-time feedback on YOUR business.

You leave Session 3 with a complete 90-day marketing calendar mapped out. A repeatable system you can run every quarter. And you’ll launch a campaign to get you at least one booking.

The waitlist for the Pet Photography Marketing System closes Wednesday 29 April at 11:59pm AEST. Members get a personalised video audit of your website, your pricing, your offer or enquiry funnel, telling you what’s working, where the gaps are, and what to fix.

Comment WAITLIST and I’ll send you the link.
