Cotter Reserve Canberra

I went to the Cotter Reserve on a late, cold Autumn afternoon to capture the last of the golden leaves.

National Arboretum Canberra

It was a very foggy morning when I arrived at the Arboretum, the for was just rolling in and out. At one time it was completely covered! And I was about to go when it lifted in some areas, that was when I took this particular shot. The rising sun and the clouds created a dreamy shot, with the sun creating some shadows on the contours.

Shot through the glass of a cafรฉ window in Canberra during the late afternoon, this image layers reflections, interior light, and street movement into a single frame. I was drawn to how the subject becomes partially obscured. present, but not fully seen? mirroring that quiet feeling of being surrounded by a city yet slightly disconnected from it.

The overlapping posters, lights, and reflections were not avoided but embraced, aiming to capture the complexity and density of urban life. At the same time, the lone figure adds a more personal layer? something about feeling lost in the noise, even in a familiar place.

The green, cinematic tone was intentionally developed in Lightroom to unify the scene and enhance that mood of detachment.

Taken on a Sony a6400 with an 85mm f/1.8. It has minimal editing beyond colour grading and contrast to shape the atmosphere.

The lake was still and reflecting beautiful autumn colours. The birds were flying home to roost. I set my camera for birds in flight and attempted to record the lovely spectacle I was witnessing.
