Meteors / Comet / Orion

Last week whilst capturing Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) alongside Orion, the western skies put on an incredible display with a plethora of meteors streaking overhead.

This image is a collection of 4 frames combined into the main composition, highlighting the extent and intensity of some of the larger meteors that graced the sky while I was imaging the scene.

Moments like these are what make nights under the stars so rewarding you never quite know what will appear in front of the lens.

Comet – C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS)

My attempt at capturing Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) using my 100mm lens together with the Benro Polaris. I wanted to frame it alongside the Orion Nebula and incorporate the familiar “saucepan” view that many people instantly recognise in the night sky.

Astrophotography continues to challenge and inspire me, especially when it comes to comets and deep space nebulae.

I still have a lot to learn with both capturing and editing these types of objects, but I wanted to share this image as part of the journey and use it as a baseline to look back on as my skills continue to improve moving forward.

Scarlet Robin

Perfectly framed, this stunning Scarlet Robin sat proudly on a branch, keeping a close eye on me to make sure I captured his best side for the photograph. 😊 A gorgeous little character, full of personality and always a pleasure to spend time observing in their environment.

Red-capped Robin

A recent capture from the past couple of weeks of this striking Red-capped Robin. Even perched in direct sunlight, he still delivered a moment worth capturing, showcasing just how remarkable these birds truly are.

Photography Exhibition - Namadgi Visitors Centre, ACT.

I'm excited to announce that, together with fellow astro photographers , Tony Clark and John Mitchell, we’re currently showcasing a collection of classic astrophotography at the Namadgi Visitor Centre during May/June.

This exhibition brings together a striking mix of night sky imagery captured across the Canberra region and the Snowy Mountains from dramatic Milky Way scenes and a standout deep space subject, to stunning aurora displays, complemented by a touch of wildlife and landscape photography.

Each image reflects years of patience, skill, and passion spent developing our craft under the night skies of this region.

If you’re passing through, we’d love you to stop in, take your time with the work, and experience these moments for yourself.

All pieces are available for purchase perfect for adding something unique to your home, office, or as a gift for family and friends.

Come along, have a look, and immerse yourself in the beauty of our local night skies. Below a few pieces that are on display.

Hooded Robin

Another morning grounded in patience, observation, and respect.

While some rush in thinking they know best, we choose a different path spending weeks, days, and long hours quietly watching and learning. It’s through this deeper understanding that moments like these become possible.

The Hooded Robins, in my view, are among the most intelligent of their kind. By taking the time to study their behaviour and environment, something shifts they don’t just tolerate our presence, they seem to recognise it.

There’s a sense of trust built over time, almost as if that patience is acknowledged and, in its own way, rewarded.

These are the moments that make it all worthwhile

Mrs Red-capped Robin

Another memorable morning spent among some of our most stunning robins. I was fortunate to capture Mrs at a distance, and despite that, she truly stands out.

That smooth, silky, colourful bokeh background just sets her off beautifully such an elegant moment in the field.

Aurora - South of Tharwa, ACT

Headed out last night with John Mitchell and Tony Clark to chase some Milky Way shots on the Benro Polaris.

Not long after arriving, the aurora alerts kicked off nothing huge, but we were treated to some subtle colour early on, with a few faint beams dancing through later.

A great reminder that even on quieter nights, there’s always something worth capturing.
