Devils Thumb
My genesis piece. A 1/1 image from the heart of the Daintree Rainforest. A place close to my heart as this is not far from where I grew up. The 24hours surrounding this image will be a time I never forget
A moment in time from my first overnight hike deep into the tropical rainforest of tropical north Queensland. To get here the group and I had to endure a four-hour insanely steep uphill battle with 20kg backpacks on. We camped on the pathway which was no wider than a body length and not even flat. During the night while we tried to hide from the ferocious 80km/h winds it started raining. The rain mixed with the wind chill made it freezing. As we tried to hide underneath the tarp we'd put on the ground to protect us from any creepy crawlies we were shivering and within minutes had to battle leeches crawling towards our faces. I remember vividly picking one off my lips. It was 1:30am and I was dreading trying to go to sleep, but I knew I needed to get some rest so I had enough energy to walk out in the morning. It was stressful but the situation didn't get any worse. All of the uncomfortable situations were worth it once I fired up my laptop and saw this image on my SD card.
