This time in your life flys by, while the days feel long- the years are short. ⁣

Somehow, in the blink of an eye, the tiny hands you once held so tightly grow bigger. ⁣

The giggles turn into conversations, and the moments you swore you’d never forget start to blur.⁣

It’s the in-between, the chaos, the cuddles, the love that fills your everyday, that we end up missing when our kids get bigger. ⁣

A flashback to my very first homebirth back in 2019.

I learned so much during this birth and I’ll forever be grateful to Jas for allowing me to be there to document her birth.

Prior to this experience I had toyed with the idea of birthing at home myself for my second babe, after my first being born in the hospital.

It wasn’t until I witnessed it myself that I realised how truly safe a woman in her birthing power is. It was also the first time I had witnessed true women centered care, midwives calmly observing as this beautiful baby made his entrance into the world.

I drove home that night and told Ezra the next time I birthed a baby it would be at home. And I did!

Motherhood takes us places that we never thought we would go.

This week my first born babe entered a new stage of her life and supporting her through this has opened up a whole new aspect of my mothering.

Knowing that we can’t take away all of the scary things our kids will experience, things that make them nervous, anxious and worried. That we have to stand beside them, to nurture their confidence and assure them that they themselves are capable of so many things.

Motherhood is a gentle strength- it’s subtle. Kind of like a stream that flows all year round, sometimes swollen with rain, when our cup is full, other times a trickle when we are running in empty. But there. A constant.

I love it when women don’t smile.

There’s something powerful in a woman’s unsmiling face. We don’t owe a smile as rent in this world.

It speaks volumes—strength, depth, authenticity.

I love it when women own their emotions without feeling the need to perform.

Happy International Homebirth Awareness Day

Bri has kindly allowed me to share some of her images from her beautiful birth at home with Maet from ITAV. There are so MANY beautiful images I want to share, it makes it hard to pick!

Though I want to share them all, I’ve only chosen one.

The one where Bri and Sam look at their baby, while their babe looks around quietly taking everything in.

An image I feel encompasses truly what birthing in your own home looks like. Drinking tea from your own cup, the smell of your own home surrounding you, your teenager walking in eating her breakfast cereal and crying looking at her mother and new baby sibling.

No rush, no fuss. No separation of mother and baby until they are ready.

I wanted an image to show you how birthing at home can be incredible and yes, not all home births look like this. There are sometimes hospital transfers before, during or after birth. These aren’t failed homebirths, but utilising services for what they are there for!

Birthing at home is incredible and should be an option for all women. By allowing women to make the choice where they want to birth, we acknowledge and respect the mother-baby dyad.

Heal and hold the mother, and the rest will follow.
