The Church Of The Good Shepherd - NZ

Situated on the shores of Lake Takapō with the most incredible backdrop of the lake and the mountains, “the Church of the Good Shepherd was built to the glory of God and as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie Country.”
“Somehow the setting and the church combine to speak of God to those who enter and pause in the midst of their busy lives.” – Peter Hurricks.”

We visited this gorgeous little Church on our trip to the incredibly beautiful & stunning Lake Takapō in New Zealand 🇳🇿
I was absolutely mesmerised by the natural beauty of the building itself but also by its location!
Crystal clear blue water greeted us as we came around the bend to the lake & then this amazing, old, little Church stood out to me… so naturally, we had to stop so I could take some photos 🥰 I am so glad we did!
The mountains 🏔️ were a sight to behold & a true representation of just how stunning this world can be!

The Church Of The Good Shepherd has a Sunday Service “where we welcome worshippers from all over the world & from all Christian worship traditions.”

The Church runs group tours by appointment 📅
They also hold wedding ceremonies, baptisms, funerals ect inside the Church itself (dream come true!).

Unfortunately we weren’t there when the incredible purple Lupines were flowering but if you want to see the beautiful fields of 50 shades of purple then November - February is the best time to visit (aim for mid Nov - late Dec or early Jan)🪻🪻

“Opened in 1935 the Church of the Good Shepherd is the sole church in Lake Takapō and continues to be a place of worship for local residents. It was designed by Christchurch architect R.S.D. Harman, based on sketches by a local artist, Esther Hope”.

The Hobbiton Movie Set is a significant location used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogy, serving as a stand-in for the town of Hobbiton in The Shire in both trilogies. It is situated on a family-run farm about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of Hinuera and 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southwest of Matamata, in Waikato, NZ, and is now a Tolkien tourist destination, offering a guided tour of the set.

We went in 2018 & the experience was incredible! 🥰🫶🏻
It was so green, you learn things about the movies & sets while on the tour. You get to experience drinking from the original pub with drinks that are themed to the movies🍿
Lots of photo opportunities & I just loved this shot that I felt really summed up the beauty of this movie set & New Zealand 🇳🇿

📌 Fun Fact - Peter Jackson wanted Bilbo’s birthday party scene to be authentic so he let the actors drink as much as they wanted. Unbeknownst to them, Jackson supplied a special brew that was only 1 per cent alcohol (called Sobering Thought), which is still sold.

Pink Mulla Mulla or Ptilotus exaltatus is a gorgeous erect annual herb endemic to large parts of arid and semi-arid Australia 🇦🇺🏜️

📍This beautiful & resilient plant is found in the stony country of the outback and has a striking, pinky-purple conical flower head.

⁉️In Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, Mulla Mulla holds great significance. It is believed to be a symbol of spiritual protection and is associated with the Fire Dreaming, which represents the cleansing and renewal of the land.

🔥🌱Mulla Mulla has developed a unique adaptation to fire-prone environments. Its seeds lie dormant underground, waiting for the heat from a fire to trigger germination. This ensures the survival of the species even in the face of destructive wildfires.

💭 The stunning Pink Mulla Mulla is everywhere where we are from (Port Hedland) & watching it all blossom each season is just magical! Especially against that sandy red outback backdrop, it’s just a sight you have to see at least once in your lifetime!
