'The Magic of Moments'
A daily routine of the Earth turning as it orbits the Sun, simple enough when seen as repetitious, yet so stunning.
For every moment, physical & relative positions between celestial bodies and us change by degrees.
Lightwaves travel from the sun, passing through our planets air during periods nearing the horizon where it reaches us in particular ways on different days.
Perceived colours & tones shift with the scattering of shortwave blue light, where longer red/yellow waves persist. Along with other atmospheric conditions & influences, what is revealed are varied states & blends of the colour spectrum. Our field of view here, possible as the light passes through our eyes to be processed by our brain to create a representation in our mind.
THEN, the magic happens, where moments manifest in us, captivating, deeply moving & cathartic, however fleeting they may be. Seconds can feel elongated, time even dissolved. Hearts can swell, eyes overflow, lips stretch into smiles, hairs stand like static, smooth skin erupts into goosebumps, tingles & shivers spread through body whole, transported & moved to feel an essence, an embodied glow of energy and awe.
This very view of Sydney at sunset, seen since I was a young kid, overwhelmed me with inspiration and a sense I couldn’t quite comprehend. So calmed in the appreciation & humbled by the beauty, whilst also feeling excess residue in creative juices flowing. Felt compelled to be able to articulate and express the intangible philosophical ‘qualia’ of it all. Wanted to do more than just witness & feel then and there, so as to further honour the experience.
I tried drawing, I tried painting, but felt frustrated through brain to hand difficulties, symptoms experienced partially due to ADD & dyslexia. Rendered messy, incomplete images arduously, yet the desire for a means of creative expression remained. Finally, I was introduced to the medium & art of photography as a young teen.
Revelled in the process, the gratification of the results, the sweetness of adaptively bypassing impediments to celebrate other capacities & abilities. Eventually too, being able to share the captured light and the eternalisation of a moment with others with the intention to also evoke something in them. Embracing this passion & outlet changed my entire life and does so to today.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading 🧡
