Last week I proudly stood on stage at the Bendigo Business Community Business Excellence Awards as the winner of the Micro + Homebased business category!

Being a small business owner comes with a lot of stress and takes a lot of work. You wear all the hats from, in my case, the photographer and videographer - right through to marketing, bookkeeping and web design. Managing all of this on top of trying to be the best Dad and husband I can be - can at times be difficult. Awards like this don’t make it easier - but they definitely help it feel a bit sweeter and remind me that all the hard work is worth it.

I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me and Twenty-four18 over the years! To every couple, others vendors, venues etc - thank you for your continued support! To my incredibly stunning wife, thank you for always supporting me and allowing me to push the business further whilst we also grow our family. To the KH Studio | Bendigo Websites & Marketing thank you for sponsoring the award and always supporting me, receiving this from you made it even more special.

Last night Twenty-four18 was named the winner of the Micro + Homebased category at the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards hosted by Be.Bendigo.

I remember the first few months when I started the business telling Alana that if I could somehow end up capturing 10 weddings- that would be so amazing. Fast forward 7 years and Twenty-four18 has been apart of so many wedding days I lost count, has won numerous awards and has bookings into 2028!

I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported this journey, to every couple who has hired me for their wedding over the years and the ones to come, and to my absolutely stunning wife who has sacrificed and supported me year on year alongside us growing our family.

What an awesome night! 🙏🏻❤️

⏰ Timeline Advice! 🙌🏻

• Build in a buffer of 5-10mins between every timeline event. Planning for a 30min ceremony? Plan for it to run for 40mins. This way if things do run behind, you aren’t stressed or needing to rush other important parts of the day.

• Choose getting ready locations that aren’t too far apart or too far from your venue. Try to keep travel times low - this allows your photographer more time to do what you’re paying them to do and less time paying them to drive.

• 5mins per speech! Politely let all those who are giving a speech know they have 5mins of time on the mic. You don’t want to miss the sunset because someone’s been going for 40mins and you’ve still got 4 speeches to go. From a missed golden hour to a short dancefloor - long speeches are often to blame.

• Re-think the group photo. This one is controversial but the group photo is rarely an image you’re going cherish. They can take a long time to organise and someone will always have their eyes closed. Want a photo of everyone? Consider a speed photo session at your reception!

• Cut out the stuff you don’t care about. Don’t want a wedding cake? Not keen on a first dance? Don’t be pressured into having to do these moments. Plan a day that is one you can’t wait to live out, one where you’re going to enjoy every moment of it!
