Feeling moody and blue… because this is the final post from Dans portrait session.

Same session, different vibe.

It’s been a little quiet around here, but for good reason.

I’ve been working behind the scenes to grow Envisioning Memories, bringing my passions together into one creative events business. Providing live music, photography and balloon styling to bring visions to life and capture memories forever.

I’m excited to share what I’ve been up to, starting with one of my favourite recent sessions featuring this incredible artist, stay tuned for more from this session because the camera just loved Dan.

This bubba though 😍

This is my baby sister Georgia, showing off her new standing and fist bump skills. she’s been helping me practice working with shadows in natural light. We went out in the late morning and took some shots in the flowers, I wasn’t happy with the shadows covering her face and was able to edit most highlights/shadowing to bring her beautiful eyes out again.
After a nap we went back out into the grass, the flowers had closed but the long grass was beautiful and natural in the arvo sun, I got some beautiful portraits that highlighted her face with minimal editing after trying some different approaches.

So lucky to have gorgeous siblings to practice and learn with whilst making beautiful memories, I’m loving taking some time to accept imperfections and work with them instead of critiquing myself in such negative ways. 🤍

Lately I’ve lost my passion for photography, I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself, have been comparing my work to other artists, neglecting my studies, and avoiding booking sessions in fear of not being good enough. Instead, I want to enjoy the journey and the memories I’m capturing in the moment; this is what I want my business to be about. I’ve decided to take a step back from pressure and expectations, reminding myself and others that I’m still learning, I’ll be sharing more of my journey while I finish my online course in ‘Professional digital photography’, so I can look back on my growth and show my audience what I’m learning.

I finally completed my first photography assignment that I’d been avoiding, and passed with great feedback! The three photos I’ve uploaded with this post were what I submitted for my assignment, without editing and in automatic program mode as requested by my tutors. The focus of this task was to analyse four different focal lengths of the same subject and use my creative opinion to indicate which one I found best. This simple task reminded me to take a step back and encouraged me to remember how important learning the right settings are, instead of only focusing on post production, so eventually I can limit time spent editing imperfections.

My goal for now is to enjoy photography as a hobby, lower my prices for those who reach out for sessions and use these moments as learning curves while I study. I won’t be pushing for paid shoots, and will be focusing on mastering my skills, for myself. I’ll be reconnecting with enjoying photography and why I wanted to start it in the first place, to envision memories and then create them. My first passion is music, and this is my main focus; as you’d be aware of if you know me personally. This journey is being documented on my other page Kate and Josh Witherspoon, and I want to ensure this remains my main focus; at least until I’m educated enough to perform both jobs simultaneously with ease.

I didn’t bring my camera to this event- with the right angles, lighting and editing skills, an iPhone can truly capture powerful moments.

This was my first time photographing at a live music event with the incredible artist B I R D E E 王煒, on the first night of her ‘On my own’ tour in Sydney. Definitely looking forward to capturing more memories like these in the music scene!
