🎤 “IS IT YELLOW BIN NIGHT, COMRADE OR NOT?” — Eugene & The Aspendale Collective 🫡
OK comrades… Never thought I'd say this, but I wrote a song.
A few of you asked for daily sanity check-ins after my post in the Aspendale Community Hub on Friday over the traffic situation...
So I went looking for drama in the last 24 hours.
And the truth is… not much happened.
Which is very rude, because I had the rhythm ready, the sarcasm warmed up, and the group page was suspiciously calm.
So naturally, I did what any normal, stable local would do…
I turned the usual Aspendale noticeboard madness into a song.
Because if there’s no helicopter, no mystery bang, no lost cavoodle, and no one screaming about bin night, what are we even doing here?
Apparently, our suburb is held together by:
🚁 helicopters that are either “hovering for 4 minutes” or “all night”
💥 mystery bangs that could be fireworks, gunshots, bins, thunder, or a transformer having an emotional breakdown
🚗 “to the driver of the white SUV…” posts that narrow it down to literally everyone in Victoria
🐈 cats that are never lost, just conducting neighbourhood audits
🟡 and the eternal question of whether it is yellow bin night or the end of civilisation
We’ve also got the classic:
suspicious cars that are usually just a tradie, a nurse, or someone trying to eat a pie in peace
dog poo posts treated like a constitutional crisis
parking wars outside people’s houses, as if the kerb is private property
school pickup behaving like Mad Max with lunchboxes
and councillors, admin, and half the suburb being told to fix traffic, weather, dogs, helicopters and vibes all at once
It’s honestly a miracle any of us survive the noticeboard.
So I turned the whole beautiful mess into a song.
I called it “IS IT YELLOW BIN NIGHT, COMRADE?” — Written by Eugene & The Aspendale Collective
Enjoy, comrades 🫡
