‘Blue rays’

On a moonless night the Aurora Australis danced brightly across the sky, clearly visible to the naked eye. Such a sight to behold.

Taken approx 90km north of Adelaide, 20/11 around 11pm

‘Dancing in the moonlight’

Last night’s aurora was just strong enough to outshine the big moon and the light pollution from Adelaide 🙂. While perhaps not as spectacular as seeing it in a dark sky location (I wasn’t able to travel far yesterday) I was glad to get amongst the action ☺️

Taken between midnight and 2am ish 17/4 at sporadic intervals from the adelaide metro beaches.

‘Flying past’

Comet c/2024 G3 ATLAS was visible yesterday just after sunset. Incredible to be able to see with the naked eye as well as on the camera 😊

‘Changing shapes’

Aurora continued to dance throughout the evening, which was incredible to watch. I didn’t think we’d ever see STEVE (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement) at 35 degrees latitude, so that was certainly a first!

Pics taken about 80kms north of Adelaide, SA, STEVE appeared around 2115pm local time, other shots taken between 2030-2130.

All I can say is wow! Another chase not to forget.

‘burst of light’

Well well well lady aurora was certainly putting on a show this morning! When I woke at around 3am the alerts were going nuts so I decided to head out to my local beach. Seeing the colourful beams dance with the naked eye just never gets old, but to see this from metropolitan Adelaide was certainly crazy. I can only imagine the view in a dark sky location!

More to come tonight hopefully pending storm conditions🤞

South Australians were treated to an aurora australis – or Southern Lights – skyshow on Monday and Tuesday nights.
