…and with the world in full bloom, remember that your family is flowering too. Don’t let it pass unnoticed - the most tender moments are the ones most worth freezing in time.

The future of photography is not less human more AI, it’s the absolute opposite, and I am here for it ❤️

I’m here to make you feel seen and understood - exactly as you are and in the current chapter of life you’ve been living.

What a privilege it is to meet you every now and then at a crossroad in your story - to document your current chapter, hold it with you gently for a moment, and then let you continue on your way towards growing and becoming. 🥹❤️

To be trusted with these small, passing seasons of your lives is something I carry with me long after you’ve gone.

See you at the next stop. 👋🏼

I’ll be the one on the sidewalk, waiting for and waiving at you.

And I can’t promise I won’t get emotional 🥹🫶🏻

This season of childhood feels a lot like the ever-changing weather in May.

It’s delicate, often unpredictable - at times stormy, then suddenly calm. So much is shifting, often all at once.

Softening into young adulthood, they reach outward, testing independence, building confidence… and yet, just as deeply, they still need the steady safety of home, of us. 🥹

It’s a time of becoming. ❤️

Hold onto it. Notice it. Capture it, in whatever way you can.

Having a baby is supposedly one of the hardest and most beautiful things there is.

But what happens when it doesn’t feel like either of those things?

When the closeness you imagined is replaced by something more intense, more consuming,
something harder to name?

Nadine’s story begins in that space.
In the tension between what is expected and what is actually lived and experienced.

It is a story about overwhelm.
About endurance that doesn’t look like endurance.
About a strength that is so easy to miss from the outside.

And about what comes after - when things begin to shift.

How much can one person hold before something inside them changes, or breaks?

Where and how does one ask for help?

And what remains when the intensity finally softens?

“Dear Mama,

I think if love had a sound, it would be your voice, you know… when you say my name.

I love you more than the whole sky, and if I could climb up there, I would break off a soft blue piece and put it in your hands, because you always give me your pieces, even the ones you should keep for yourself.

My favorite days are the quiet ones with you. Just us at home. I watch your face when you laugh, and I try to remember it forever, like taking a picture, so I never lose it.

When our shoulders touch, I feel like the whole world is just right. Like I am not just a kid in the world, but your kid. And that is the best thing to be.

Sometimes I see your eyes look a little sad or tired, and I wish I was bigger so I could carry some of it for you. I know you carry a lot. I would hold all your heavy things and tell you to go rest, and I would sit very quietly so you could sleep.

You always take care of me, even when you’re running out of energy. I don’t know how your heart does that, but I think it’s because it’s the strongest heart ever made.

If I could give you anything, I would give you a day where you don’t have to worry about anything at all. Just me and you, and laughing, and cards, and our little family.

Mama, you are my home. Not the walls, not the roof. You.

And I love you forever and ever, even past the sky.

Love,
Your boy”

Trigger warning: Infertility, IVF & Pregnancy loss 🕊️

From the outside, this looked like an everyday photo session capturing sweet moments between a mother and her son. A version of the story everyone can see.

But behind these images is Stela’s story - the part no one sees.

Some journeys into motherhood begin long before a child is ever held, in ways not many people are willing to speak about.

It takes nine months to grow a baby. But sometimes, it takes years of heartbreak and perseverance to get there. Not because of a lack of courage, but because of a kind of pain that never fully leaves.

Stela wrote about it in her own words - honestly and beautifully.

If you feel drawn to read it or you’ve walked a similar path, you can find it in the Invisible Mothers blog - link in bio 🤍

🌸 MOTHER'S DAY 2026 🌸

For this year's Mother's Day, I have something special for you.

“Letters to My Child”

More than just a photo session. A photo session with a little twist. 😉

It's something your child will treasure for years to come. A way to hold onto this chapter of motherhood (and their childhood), in a form that will one day become invaluable.

‼️ After opening early access to my newsletter community, I have only 3 spots left, and I can't wait to see who I will have the pleasure to photograph this year for the celebration of all mothers.

Please head to comments for more information, and get in touch as soon as possible to claim your slot.

Love,

Romana

Vienna at this time of the year feels like a poem you don’t want to end.
Spring always comes back. So does the feeling that everything good is still ahead of you. Vienna knows this. The Donaukanal knows this. And standing here with you, so do I.

How beautiful is it to be in love that makes the world feel bigger, not smaller? ❤️

I’m beyond thrilled to announce that the “Invisible Mothers” made it to the final selection of the Spring 2026 issue! 💚❤️

This publication is an endless source of incredible worldwide talent and inspiration, gathering images that are soaked with emotions, warmth, connection and love.

Flipping through its pages makes me always think of how lucky we and our children are - to have a tangible proof of the connections we share through images that are honest and raw, and will forever remind us what it feels like to be loved.

My heart is full!

Thank you

No one really tells you how much of yourself motherhood will ask for.

Not just your time or your sleep - but your identity, your freedom, your sense of who you are in the world.

And when you’re raising children far from the place that shaped you… the questions can feel even louder.

Who am I now?
Where do all the other pieces of me go?
And how do you build a home when the people who know you best are far away?

The past two years of raising her twins abroad have stretched Ana in ways she never imagined. Some days feel impossibly full of love. Others feel surprisingly lonely.

This series of images hold just a few fragments of her experience.

If you’ve ever parented far from home, tried to rebuild yourself in a new country, or wondered how motherhood reshapes a woman - this story might speak to you.

Ana has shared her voice through her words in the latest “Invisible Mothers” blog post.

You can read it through the blog post (link in comments) 💚
