And just like that, without any hassle, commuting, soft boxes, props or posing, they get to hold on to this little piece of their life exactly as it was.

Just their cozy home. Their loving arms. Their little baby boy, his big sister, mom and dad.

How their home looked that summer.
The little details they probably didn’t even notice at the time. The adorable peach fuzz on their newborn son. The way his big sister looked at him, and the love she already had for him. The gentle way his mom and dad held him, cared for him, and were learning this new version of their family.

They’ll remember the warmth of their home. The light coming through the windows. The sound of the violin in the background. That particular summer. The feeling of being all together, of belonging, of having so much to be grateful for.

And maybe most of all, they’ll remember how it felt.

That quiet happiness. That excitement. The tiredness. The love. The beautiful chaos of bringing a new little person home and being a family of four. 💚

When the boy’s hand leaves dad’s neck one day and grows strong enough to carry someone else’s weight…

That’s the shift nobody thinks about in this moment. But it’s still coming.

Maybe that’s why this is the photo nobody knew they needed.

30 years from now, when dad’s hair has gone silver, and that little hand has become a father’s hand holding his own child’s - maybe that’s when they’ll want to go back in time and revisit this moment.

What their strength, their bond, and the comfort between them looked like.

From an angle neither of them could have seen.

Before your family session, here’s your permission slip to let go of the idea that your children need to “behave.” 😄 🤍

What’s normal during your family photo session:

💚 Being shy at first. Unless you’re regulars and your kids already call me by my first name, completely normal for them to need a little time to warm up…. and then they can start asking you when they will see Romana for photos again 😉

💚 Following your child’s lead. Yep, I’m in charge, but so is your kid! Happy, curious, unstoppable… hello, independent 2-year-olds! 😅 We go with them, not against them.

💚 Mood changes. Happy one minute, fascinated the next, then suddenly bored and completely unbothered. That’s childhood. Nobody is asked to be 100 % happy and engaged the entire time (not even you, although I expect a little more effort from you 🤭). We’re capturing their personality, not perfection.

💚 Snack breaks. Because nothing derails momentum like hunger. 🍓 I know something about that myself.

💚 Crying. A stumble, a scraped knee, a missed catch. Kids move faster than their legs (and faster than even the most watchful parent can react). A small accident tears often dry up faster than you know it. 🤗

💚 Naps. Because all that playing makes for the good kind of tired. Sometimes they arrive already dreaming, and that’s great, too. Slowly dozing off by the end of the session? Cutest thing there is! Let me freeze those moments for your “forever”.

This is what a real session looks like. Not curated, not controlled - just your family, exactly as it is and as you know it.

What a privilege it is to meet you every now and then at a crossroad in your story - to document your current chapter, hold it with you gently for a moment, and then let you continue on your way towards growing and becoming. 🥹❤️

To be trusted with these small, passing seasons of your lives is something I carry with me long after you’ve gone.

See you at the next stop. 👋🏼

I’ll be the one on the sidewalk, waiting for and waiving at you.

And I can’t promise I won’t get emotional 🥹🫶🏻

This season of childhood feels a lot like the ever-changing weather in May.

It’s delicate, often unpredictable - at times stormy, then suddenly calm. So much is shifting, often all at once.

Softening into young adulthood, they reach outward, testing independence, building confidence… and yet, just as deeply, they still need the steady safety of home, of us. 🥹

It’s a time of becoming. ❤️

Hold onto it. Notice it. Capture it, in whatever way you can.

Having a baby is supposedly one of the hardest and most beautiful things there is.

But what happens when it doesn’t feel like either of those things?

When the closeness you imagined is replaced by something more intense, more consuming,
something harder to name?

Nadine’s story begins in that space.
In the tension between what is expected and what is actually lived and experienced.

It is a story about overwhelm.
About endurance that doesn’t look like endurance.
About a strength that is so easy to miss from the outside.

And about what comes after - when things begin to shift.

How much can one person hold before something inside them changes, or breaks?

Where and how does one ask for help?

And what remains when the intensity finally softens?

“Dear Mama,

I think if love had a sound, it would be your voice, you know… when you say my name.

I love you more than the whole sky, and if I could climb up there, I would break off a soft blue piece and put it in your hands, because you always give me your pieces, even the ones you should keep for yourself.

My favorite days are the quiet ones with you. Just us at home. I watch your face when you laugh, and I try to remember it forever, like taking a picture, so I never lose it.

When our shoulders touch, I feel like the whole world is just right. Like I am not just a kid in the world, but your kid. And that is the best thing to be.

Sometimes I see your eyes look a little sad or tired, and I wish I was bigger so I could carry some of it for you. I know you carry a lot. I would hold all your heavy things and tell you to go rest, and I would sit very quietly so you could sleep.

You always take care of me, even when you’re running out of energy. I don’t know how your heart does that, but I think it’s because it’s the strongest heart ever made.

If I could give you anything, I would give you a day where you don’t have to worry about anything at all. Just me and you, and laughing, and cards, and our little family.

Mama, you are my home. Not the walls, not the roof. You.

And I love you forever and ever, even past the sky.

Love,
Your boy”

Trigger warning: Infertility, IVF & Pregnancy loss 🕊️

From the outside, this looked like an everyday photo session capturing sweet moments between a mother and her son. A version of the story everyone can see.

But behind these images is Stela’s story - the part no one sees.

Some journeys into motherhood begin long before a child is ever held, in ways not many people are willing to speak about.

It takes nine months to grow a baby. But sometimes, it takes years of heartbreak and perseverance to get there. Not because of a lack of courage, but because of a kind of pain that never fully leaves.

Stela wrote about it in her own words - honestly and beautifully.

If you feel drawn to read it or you’ve walked a similar path, you can find it in the Invisible Mothers blog - link in bio 🤍
