Gabriel Sundukyan National Academic Theatre is one of Yerevan’s notable examples of late Soviet modernist architecture. The current building was completed in 1966 after the original 1938 theatre by architect Nikolay Baev was destroyed by fire. The new theatre was designed by architects Razmik Alaverdyan, Suren Burkhajyan, and Gurgen Mnatsakanyan.

The building is distinguished by its sculptural façade featuring reliefs by Ara Harutyunyan () and interiors enriched with artworks by Hmayak Bdeyan and Martiros Saryan, making it a remarkable synthesis of architecture, art, and theatre in the heart of Yerevan.

Architect: Henrik Ghukasyan, 1983.

Ornament in Soviet Armenian architecture was not merely decorative, but a modern reinterpretation of medieval Armenian motif integrated into facades as a subtle continuity of cultural identity.
